Yes - this is where being my own loving parent (learned in ACOA) has helped me tremendously. I can know that my HP loves me mistakes and all thanks to the 12 steps of any program, and ACOA reminds me to treat me like I would treat my own children. What would you say to your daughter had she made this mistake? Hopefully something like "Hey sweatie pie, we all make mistakes and no one is perfect. You did all the right things after it, and it's okay to forgive yourself and move on... you deserve that. I love having you in my life, and you're worth loving no matter how many mistakes you make. I'm proud of how you handled it, and I know you've learned from it, so lets just get in the present, and stop living in the past now. I love you!"

This sort of self talk that I never got as a child helps me - it seems REALLY weird at first, but it has changed my life. I have heard some people actually look in the mirror and do this! I'm not there yet...lol... but some internal loving dialog is coming naturally - and maybe it helps that I have little kids and say these sorts of things to them every day because for a couple years there I didn't tell them squat and just repeated the patterns of my own parents : (  I have the power (from my HP) to change that now... and change the way I treat myself too!  You do too!

Missed an appointment with someone, work-related. It just flew out of my head, and I stood them up.

It's not a huge deal because I apologized and rescheduled, but I'm overly-sensitive to my mistakes. They remind me that this was a pattern when I was drunk, and I have a difficult time letting go of the guilt, even though my track record at work has been stellar since I got sober.

Kicking myself.

"It's not a huge deal"

You said it yourself. It's not.

They're called mistakes or accidents because we don't mean them. If we did they'd be called on-purposeses.

Yours wasn't an on purpose, and you did what you could to fix the issue, so let it go. Concentrate on the now. It's all we have and all we need.

:)

Thanks for the comments friends!

Justadrunk: I did try the self-pep talk, and it does work. But I'm not ready for the mirror yet either, lol.

Hopefully you get to a point where you can laugh at your screwups. Humans are flawed individuals. I learned that i have ADD. Add that to my dyslexia and I have work harder at being organized so as not to forget things.

We all make  mistakes. It's just a fact of life.  Keep moving forward.
