10th June 1935, AA was born when two alcoholics came together to formulate a program of 12 steps. One was a medical doctor and the other a stockbroker. That program was presented to me on the 13th April 1988. It works if we work it.
I honestly have no idea how (or if) anyone was ever able to get sober before the support of AA :) If I am going to have this disease, I'm thankful that it is at a time when people have discovered tangible ways to fight it. Thank God for these founders.

It's a beautiful thing! Going to Akron on founders day is on my 'bucket list'. I did get a very nice tour of Akron 4 years ago, from a member of this board and her sponsor. They picked me up at the airport in the morning, and drove to all the historic spots (Dr. Bob's house, Akron intergroup/museum, The Mayflower Hotel...) along with a nice meal. It was extraordinary I was staying down the road at Canton, attending the NFL Hall of Fame induction of two very special members of my favorite football team, who I have loved dearly from childhood. And as exciting and over the top that weekend long celebration was, it didn't compare to my Akron trip.
