Now it's been a while ago since I last took alcohol and I was starting to forget how ill it made me.
I'm in self imposed training for a charity cycle event and like to do fifty or sixty miles a week on my pushie ( only had it a couple months, not having ridden one since I was sixteen and that's forty years ago )
Anyway I've taken recently to doing a long un on a Saturday. ...at least thirty miles.
Yesterday I went to the coast. Shoulda been just 32 miles but if 32 is good then 42 gotta be better. .(see where that thinking comes from )
And it was blisteringly hot. Death valley hot. Furnace hot.
So I took a quart of water and a pint of protein shake.
Ten miles from home and all the water is gone as is all the shake......and I'm getting sunburned.
Eight miles to go and I'm sweating like a spaniard at a bullfight.
Five miles and the sweat is so salty I can taste it.
Three miles the sweat runs into my eyes and blinds me.
Two miles and I'm not sweating any more.
I go to the store and buy two litres of milk and two litres of water.
I sat in the carpark and drank a litre of each to rehydrate and get some protein in me.
It took both to give me enough hydration to start sweating again.
And I was serously sunburned.
A long cool shower followed then lots of moisturiser on the sunburn. An hour on thr bed.
Last night I had the sweats, stomach cramps, loose bowels, nausea and nott much sleep due to over exercise, mild sun stroke and bad sunburn.
Just like coming down offe the booze!
God I don't wanna go back there.
