Was my 24 hr chip.  I got it and then became fixated on the Year chips.  That was one of my errors.  I forgot or ignored, most likely ignored One Day At A Time.

Dori,

Thanks for sharing and congrats on the 24 hr chip. I enjoy your contributions here at MIP!

In our lives and our sobriety dates there in always a begining date -(a dash) and the ending date. The dash time is the only thing that ever matters, right here, right now what are we doing today.

Thanks for the reminder,

I was pretty focused on getting to 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, a year... As long as your mind doesn't start going "Oh I will never get that much sobriety time" and give up, it's not necessarily bad to project in that way. Yes, it is a day at a time, but hope and looking forward in a good way is not necessarily a big problem. Only when it turns into thinking that will influence you to relapse rather than stay the course for any given day.

I have a lovely pink cover for my Big Book and 12 & 12. It has a slot for a chip on the front cover. I keep a 24 hour chip there to remind me that even though I have a little sober time under my belt now, that it's today that matters. That chip keeps me grounded in the moment. The other ones I have are treasured too but I am as close to taking a drink as the person who quit an hour ago if I don't stay spiritually fit and keep taking the steps. :)
