The disease of alcoholism does not discriminate. It works by law, just like gravity is a law. The disease is irreversible and once addicted the cycle cannot be broken except through divine intervention. It's a personal disease and therefore cannot be diagnosed by a third person, not even medicine. To the best of my knowledge ,I found that the AA book with it's 12 steps of recovery, to be the best solution for an alcoholic like myself. This is my experience. It cannot be forced upon anyone. Alcohol will definitely beat us into a state of reasonableness, and seek recovery, or we might die of body malfunction. The choice is ours.
The recovery demands daily spiritual fitness. For some this might be too much. Nevertheless death still reigns, even in our ignorance, because the law of addiction never changes.
