I was meeting with some colleagues earlier. One of them had brought small cinnamon buns. I ate one and then thought there was a funny taste to it. Either booze, or molasses maybe. Well, I got myself into a complete tailspin that I had accidentally had booze in this cinnamon bun. I couldn't concentrate for the rest of the meeting. I convinced myself I felt tipsy. I asked the woman if there was booze in them and she said she didn't know, her neighbour had made them. So, I have no idea!

GAH. Someone tell me they have been in this situation!

My brain is just going a million miles an hour. And probably for nothing.

Oh man, ... the power of taste and smell ... ... ... I think you psyched yourself out here ... whether there was a drop of booze in it or not, you didn't take a drink ... ... ...

You know, when you bake a cake or something, you're putting booze in it ??? ... when we use Vanilla Extract, there's alcohol in it ... but it doesn't do anything for or to us ... not unless you drink the stuff ... ... ... tell your brain to settled down and not obsess over this, no harm done ... at the very worst, you got a fraction of a 'drop' ... a lot different than taking a drink ... IMO

You certainly have no need to change your 'sobriety date' ... LOL

Haha. Thank you for the reassurance, Pappy! Psyching myself out is exactly what happened, I think. I have an amends appointment tomorrow and I am a nervous wreck.

Ahhh, ... yes that will do it ... LOL ... ... ... that was something that I never looked forward to either ... just remember to be sincere, and what the other person thinks is none of your concern ... I've found that they usually turn out much better than I could have ever imaged ... ... ... the feeling afterward is so phenomenal ... whether they received it as it was intended or not ... you'll be fine ...

I had a similar experience in very sobriety. I had an upset stomach, so a friend hands me a ginger ale. Worked like a charm... I didn't realize he had put bitters in it, which has a small amount of alcohol. After discussing it with my sponser I felt as though I did not violate my sobriety. I know people have differing views on alcohol in food, but I work in a restaurant that uses wine to season dishes often and eat them without feeling as though I'm doing anything wrong. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it- just my opinion.

I've had this happen a few times. I've talked to my sponsor about it when it happened early in sobriety. I've also been out and been able to taste alcohol in food. I've asked the waitress if there was and they said yes. It's just good to know because if I feel uncomfortable and I'm honest with myself I know it's ok. No reason to make a bigger deal out of it than needs to be, so long as I'm honest.

Hey RT,
Sounds completely normal. Many of us have fought through the same. Just laugh it off and put up defenses for next time. About 20 years ago, my military buddies (we were all young and stupid) wondered what I would be like drunk. They knew I stopped drinking, and that I just drank diet coke. So at a party, they were spiking my coke with a bit of rum. I had gotten through half a glass when I realized that something was wrong, and one of my buddies felt terrible and told me and was angry at himself and others. Now in the military, at the time, you could call them every name in the book, in a good natured way, and it sounded like normal conversation. We laughed it off and I pressed on. Did I need to stop the clock? Who cares. I just went on one day at a time, and I could give a rip if it counts as a break in sobriety. The real lesson is that the program gave me the tools to realize that the length of sobriety is not as important as the day to day sobriety.

This has happened to me and I was very upset at the time. Some bisquit things that girls brought for a work party for laced with alcohol. I discussed it with other members and they reassured me that it was something I needed to watch out for in the future and I do within reason as I am not in control of that kind of thing. I do tend to ask as I am uncomfortable with alcohol in medicines etc, so am wary of medication also. It took me a long time to get over the cravings for alcohol and would be worried that it would start that again. Like you I was uncomfortable with it.
