And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. -Hebrews 13:16

Nothing is really ours until we share it. -C.S. Lewis
Weekly Thought
As a Christmas present, Michael received a brand new car from a close friend who had just inherited a large sum of money. Several weeks later, after the holidays, as Michael left the office to go home, a shabbily dressed man stood near his parking spot, admiring his new wheels. "Hey man, is this your car?" the man asked.
Michael nodded with a gulp. "My friend gave it to me for Christmas." The man was astonished. "You mean, your friend gave it to you, and it cost you nothing? Man, I wish..." Michael anticipated what the wish would bethat the man, too, would love to have such a generous friend.
"I wish," the man continued to Michael's amazement, "that I could be a friend like that."
Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35). When we pray for blessings, we ought also to pray that we might use those gifts to bless someone else. What can you bless someone with today, even if it's something small?
Dear Lord, whether I have a lot or a little, You have given me something I can share. Show me someone I can bless today. Amen.

Firstly, I agree we should share, however I have seen many folk fall to the wayside as there are people in and out of AA who will take advantage of charity or a persons good nature, these victims are usually newcomers who then pick up resentments which will and does take people back out again.
The alkies biggest return to alcohol is usually caused by a resentment.
Firstly we need to get our own house in order by doing and following the 12 step programme before we can give and that does not mean material wealth, sometimes the best thing a person can receive is a listening ear, or an honest suggestion with guidance.
We have to be mindful and this includes myself that all Human beings are selfish and self-centred to the core, and many are looking for something in return after they give, even if it is a pat on the back to bolster there possible still insecurities....

Okay, I really had to think about your comments for a good while ...

I think I have to disagree here ... I don't agree that there are 'many' who 'take advantage' of charity or of the gifts given to them by well meaning people, but I agree there are a few who will take advantage of others because it's all they know ... and until they learn different, that'll remain the same for them ... and I don't see many 'new-comers' giving of what they have so much as I see them taking all they can get regarding getting and staying sober ... When they do get to the point of giving back, then we must teach them about 'expectations' and how to handle giving that is not always taken or used the right way ... (at least from their view point)
Did that make any sense ??? ... ... ...
all Human beings are selfish and self-centred to the core
I certainly don't agree here ... I'm 60 ... and I've met many of people in my lifetime that are so unselfish, that it has become one of their faults ... they give so much of their time and possessions that it can become a problem for them, not taking care of themselves well enough ... some, even to the point that they neglect family in order to help others they see as 'deserving' ...
