The Full Version of the Serenity Prayer
God, grant me the Serenity
To accept the things I cannot change...
Courage to change the things I can,
And Wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His will.
That I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with Him forever in the next.
Amen.

out of this prayer, I found 4 important things:

A cceptance.
C ourage.
K nowledge of His will.

Hope.

From that I got ACKnowledge HOPE. As soon as I acknowledged that there is hope for me, my recovery began.

My condition was hopeless to me.

Hey Gonee,,blessings of this day...

I always found great comfort in this prayer. WE can see why it has been shortened to include others view of their own Higher Power(not a male God with after life promises,Christian based). As a born again Christian(as you are aware)  my strength (ours) in our Higher Power was in full play.during my 17 year old sons ,7 long devastating years of Heroin addiciton(now in recovery)I was able to assimilate the "acceptance" of what I could not change and also the"wisdom" to know the difference but "the courage to change what I could"(stop enabling, putting him on the street near death, having him arrested and put in jail)was beyond anything WE (my wife and I) could do ,,it was truly the Power of God's( of my understanding) strength and mercy that carried us through that beyond heartbreaking situation(worse than my own 25 years of oblivion caught in the grip...The Serenity came with our full reliance on God.making the decisons and leaving the results to God's care//.....I constantly pray  daily for that continued  courage in all areas of my life..Peace my brother thanks for a message that brings much meaning to me personally....smile

Thank you Gonee, I've never read the whole thing believe it or not, and it's just what I needed today. I'm working for it today and that's okay - I've had a lot of days I haven't had to do much work at'll and been ungrateful. Thanks again.

Thanks Gonee and Mike. I was taught this prayer when I was a child through faith instructions. Like most children, the words were recited and not really thought about. Fast forward, right before my involvement with AA/AlAnon I came acrossed it in a prayer book. It took many many times of saying it before those words had meaning. Now it comes from the heart rather than the lips.

Thanks, Gonee. Beautiful- I wish they'd read the full version more often at meetings.

Love this version Gonee.  I read it every day.

Just the other night I listened to a recording on a Celebrate Recovery app that went through and explained the whole prayer.  It was great.
