Roger Ebert passed today. He had a bunch of years in AA.
He outed himself as an AA in a long article in the Chicago Sun-Times about 4 years ago*. It showed he was a grateful guy, though he unabashedly violated Tradition 11. Kind of surprised me then. No more, many do it.
Sorry to hear he passed. I will never a fan of breaking traditions, but I appreciate the fact that he did the article in the spirt of being helpful and not self serving.

Saw this news and made me want to come to this site and share about Roger Ebert's passing too. I remeber seeing his article very early when I came into the fellowship and got sober. Like others, I repsect the tradition and don't refer to myself an an alcoholic in AA in any public forum (I'm not important enough to make it into press, radio of film. ;) ).
But I found his article hugely comforting. It was like "wow, he's one of us too and he's sober." Helped keep me on course. Thanks Roger E.
