A Great outlook on a tough issue for some of us!

Hey Rick

good to talk with ya.. Yes for me it was something I never struggled with ,my Higher Power has always been the same since I was a child it was the relationship that developed through the years that was reenforced through our Step work.I have met so many people like the previous posts on this page that have' Struggled with that God concept; even my own sponsees thats why I dont find it coincidental that todays reading addresses that newcomers thoughts.I aint much on coincidences..WE are a spiritual not religious program and I have others say to me, well if we can choose our own HP in Step 2 Why all of a sudden in Step 3 its GOD and its a HIM.?( and we may see resistance, impartial surrender, the struggle that defeats us in recovery  with an attitude of indifference or intolerence toward spiritual principles, the HOW of honesty, openmindedness and willingness? ) For me the same God was with me during my 25 year reign of devastation and also thru my surrender and recovery,, it was definitely the relationship  that changed..  Hey Like the reading and quote says" you like to have your own little Tinkerbell(if that is what you think you need or the ability to follow suggestions of our 1st/2nd steps) and move forward, don't let the semantics chase you away) Its what this Power can do to help not what or who it is..More is always revealed as we work deeper and deeper,,early on I could only imagine for some the all important ability to find that Higher Power that works for them takes much effort no matter what anyone reads or says. Thanks for sharing folks.............smile

Morning and blessings of this day!

Today's Grapevine Quote(MikeB usually puts in up on site)is a wonderful way to look at the sometimes "struggling with the God concept" WE many incur on our journey into recovery!! Check it out, the true idea of  a Higher Power being whatever that  Power  is (with a few guidelines)that can help us in our recovery,a process and not an event for most as we develop our relationship through the years.....cool.....smile

I suppose Mike , a lot of us did not worry about "th god bit" whilst in

active alcoholism . That Is why I am glad step 2 says , "came to believe".

Older sober members pointed out to me , when or what I had to believe in ,

or if I wanted to believe in anything at all . While I did not have any trouble

with this issue , I have been able to pass on what was told to me .

In one way I resisted the idea of a God and certainly had no concept. I was however, willing to believe that AA's method of spiritual recovery could work for me. I tried all suggestions including prayer and I commenced to get results. The results appear to have been the courage to take the step 3 decision and act on it by taking steps 4 and 5. After step 5 I began to get the feeling that there was a God, by step 10 I was certain and beginning to establish conscious contact wich has progressed over the years into a solid faith, and a working part of my mind.

God bless
MikeH.

Spiritual Appendix at the back of the book. I needed the educational variety. The lightning bolt type some have but that isn't where the Solution was we still need the educational variety. It comes thru workin the steps and I ain't talkin Big Book Bingo either, other whole process has to be done

Interesting term. Have never seen it before reading this. What does it mean?
