I got a call from the veterans administration they suggested I get a service dog (for PTSD) but they don't have any funding right now so I bought a puppie and I'm going to train it myself but I seem to be getting a lot flack about bring him to meetings with me. I'm trying to better my life the dog has very well behaved and I just don't understand why anyone would fight me on this issue. Could it be PTSD is a unseen disability. The dog is helping me stay calm in this little storm.
Years back when I lived in Ohio, there was a guy who was going blind and he brought his "service dog" to the meetings with him and I never heard mention of any issues.
Perception is everything. Make sure he looks official with the outfit and everything, otherwise people will assume you just want to bring a pet and if everyone starts bringing pets it will get ridiculous.
Tonight's meeting was very special to me. First off the speaker talked about PTSD he also showed a few tears. Tonight this man spoke for me to the group. It was god talking for me trough him. We took it to vote and we got 100% yes it was a very overwhelming moment. Now we two more meetings to go.
I am having the same problem. i have a service/therapy dog (golden retriever) and in my home group two people decided to not allow him in. I attended the steering committee meeting, bringing my dog in his vest and certification. Th4ere were only 3 people at the meeting so I was overuled. It is rediculous. I am prone to seizures and strokes and my dog alerts me to the signs of stroke. He also provides comfort to others in the room; most everyone knows him. He is calm, obedient, friendly, doesn't bark and usually just lies there at my feet.
i Don't like to be a rabblerouser, but I could take him in as it is federal law, but I;d rather do it some other way. iDEAS??????
I posted on the 'by-laws' thread already, but it seems you've already done what I had suggested ... If this is such a small group, I think I'd consider becoming a member of at least a slightly larger group where you'd have a larger member base to support you ... I just can't believe you're get'n flak over have'n a service dog with you ... sounds like this group you're in are some pretty cold hearted people, or the two guys you're referring to are anyway ... I would hate to see anyone having to go through this ... what a shame ... please don't let this affect your sobriety ... not all groups are alike ... try some other groups til you find one better suited to your needs ...

I am a disabled american, with dual disabilities, that require me to have an off-leash service dog [ Chilli ] as prescribed by my team of doctors, for suicide prevention, panic attacks and anxiety relief.
Americans with service animals are protected by federal and state law, DEPT. of Justice; Americans with Disabilities Act of 2010 {amended from 1993} and allowed in public places, anywhere people are. There is no higher man-made authority in the United States.
Tradition 2. For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority - a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.
The law states that they must be under control by leash, or harness UNLESS in such cases would prevent the animal from performing it's duty. Also, the law makes an allowance for people with physical disabilities to have an un-leashed service animal, that might otherwise aggravate onses disability. In this case the animal must be under control by verbal or sign language.
On two occasions I have been ostracized and asked to leave by Master Keith; disrupting a meeting of AA, already in progress. I am certain this was never anyones intention. -last occurence, SAT 06 APR 2019 @ 11:30A
Also the law states that employees and authorities may only ask two questions and nothing more:
Are you being accompanied by a service animal? and
What service does your animal provide?
I have often visited the Unity Temple in KC,MO since 2008, for AA meetings and the majority of the time had a pleasant and healing experience. I pray for this relationship to continue as I enjoy frequenting. The majority of members are respectful and kind, with only a few exceptions.
I hope this helps.
Pray to OUR loving GOD, for the very best out-come.

Further, NO one may ask for "paperwork" or special licensing, only local city registration and rabbies vaccinations, by law enforcement.

Disabled people ARE NOT ABLE to be in public without accompaniment! It's not about the dog it's about US. If you want to see a grown person throw an atomic-sized psychotic episode, black-out and lose control, push the issue as far as you can.
Why don't you, co-dependent, sadistic, narcissistic, sociopaths, take it up with your congressman, sponsor, or therapist if you are un-happy with the law. LEAVE US ALONE!
Or, move to a country where service animals aren't allowed... GET OVER IT AND GROW UP!
OR are you not an American protected and bound to US Federal Law?
"We cannot control people, places or things..." to do so would sacrifice our serenity. So, do you want to be in control or do you want peace and happiness? The choice is yours, but you are not in control of me or my service animal! We're not a problem, behave better than most humans ( YOU). No human is in control of the show at AA, except OUR loving GOD.
*See tradition 2.
Until then, THIS country has LAWS that protect OUR rights.
Go find someone else to control.
*** CASE CLOSED ***
P.S. Alcoholics Anonymous welcome codependent-sociopaths, psychopaths, ass-holes, mental patients, criminals, felons, petifiles, murders and rapists... but not innocent well-behaved service dogs? WTF...

Oh I get it, we are supposed to tip toe around disabled folk and should not be allowed an opinion. Your response did not have the outcome you were seeking because now I double down and stand even firmer on my opinion.
I recently got a Shiba Inu puppy. They were really helpful and answered all of my inquiries about puppies for sale morristown new jersey. Anyone looking for a new family member should definitely consider silver nickel pups.
ADA law must be followed. Area 58, district 21, group1. A guy, acting like an administrator told me to leave with my Service Dog. Demanding "certification", vests & papers. Not ADA compliant. I refused to leave, told him to call a cop. I intend to correct the situation at the next business meeting or file a discrimination accommodation complaint with Oregon
Bureau of Labor and Industries. I will attend tomorrow with my Service Dog.
