Welcome to MIP Peej, ... glad you found us ... the 90- in -90 is very important for a good solid start in AA ... we learn a whole different way to think here ... of course that's accomplished by working the steps ... we'll be happy to assist you in any way we can

God Bless,
Pappy

Hi. I remember when I first went in for intake for the outpatient treatment program I was checking into. After calling around to several and finding that all of them required me to go to AA meetings, I chose the closest one to my house. I was of the mindset that I would do treatment groups, but I didn't want any part of AA. When I went in for the intake, the counselor told me again, 2 meetings a week. I distinctly remember telling her, I was not doing that part of the program. I was signing up for treatment voluntarily (kind of, but that's a whole different story), and I only had to do the parts of it that suited me. I told her I would do online meetings, but not face to face. We talked some more, she told me when the first group was, and that was the end of the interview.
At the first group session, she handed me a slip, a meeting schedule, and with a smile said "You need to hand this slip in monthly with proof of meeting attendance".
So, I went to my first meeting, but I did so unwillingly, and certainly never told anyone it was my first meeting. Long story short, I wound up getting first stepped by a group of people I had been hanging on the fringes of 6 months later. From that time on, that group, my sponsor, and this program has saved my @## and my sanity more times than I can count.
Do not rob yourself of the experience of face to face meetings. There are all kinds, in all areas of the country and the world. You can take what you need and leave the rest, and some of the most amazing messages I have heard have come from the most unlikely of sources, definitely people I would not have otherwise encountered in tha bubble I lived in.
So, welcome to MIP, this board is also an amazing source of strength and support in my sobriety. Peace
BTW, I have yet to "attend" an online meeting.

Conversing like this throughout the day here is a lot like a meeting to me ... the fact that we, at our leisure, can look to see what others are sharing and choose to jump right in OR to sit back and give the topic some 'thought' before sharing is very comforting to me ... ... ... But NOTHING can replace 'face-to-face' meetings ... they are essential to recovery, in my book ... be sure they remain a part of your recovery ...

God Bless,
Pappy

Welcome! Though face to face meetings are vital, it's great to have a place like this to check into, as well. I've never actually done an online meeting, as there are so many f2f meetings in the area I live.

I have no intention of substituting f2f meetings for online meetings. I need that f2f interaction. I just thought it was interesting that there is online meetings. Thank you all for your replies!smile

Online meetings go back at least 10 years at various sites on the Net. They are essential for people who don't like or cannot get to F2F meetings. Also for those in geographical locations with few or no meetings.

Looks like we are having an online meeting here tonight.

We have advertised that we hold two AA meetings a week but I've never seen one here, so this will be a first.

Am gonna try to make the online tonight.
