I'm wondering how many people in 12-step programs feel the need to write a book about their experiences with recovery as a way of anchoring their recovery, seeing their lives with increased clarity and learning self-acceptance and forgiveness. Have any of you written a book about your recovery or been thinking about doing it?
Welcome to MIP Ralph ... ... ... the book depicting my life has been written already ... it's called 'Alcoholics Anonymous' ... this book is so very accurate in the way it describes the kind of person I was and what kind of person I became ... it describes the process as well ...
By the way, there is only ONE original '12 Step Program' ... all others are copies ... why, because this God inspired book and program works when the sufferer works its ...
God Bless, Pappy

I think writing to heal is great. I do it here on MIP as sort of an online journal. A book about it? Well... I suppose if it is meant to help others and not boast about ourselves... then great! We do share our recovery as 12th step work... and if you have a knack for writing... then that is a gift from your HP so you should use it!

what pappy said. and my lifes story was written before i was born. i did write my life story. the motive was to search out the flaws in my make-up which caused my failure( 4th step). then i burned it.
Welcome to the MIP board. I have never written a book, nor felt a strong need. I mostly followed the suggested steps, which does include writng and listing a inventory of our character defects etc, which are things that we needed to be rid of and would block us from a spiritual experience.
I always went along the "spiritual life is not a theory, we had to live it". Working the steps in my life was what helped to anchor my sobriety, doing God's work aided in self acceptance and forgiveness.
I have thought of writting on some Grapevine topics and of course have told my story at meetings, but I considered it more sharing my experience to help others....but of course it does help me also.
