Hi.  My name is Rebecca and I'm an alcoholic.  I'm new to the board today.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on meditation tapes and/or books.

I look forwarding to getting to know everyone and learning about all of your journeys.

Welcome, Rebecca! Check out the sticky thread at the top of this page about resources, there might be something in there.

Welcome Rebecca, ... ... ... glad your're here to try us out ... welcome to the family!

There was no mention of whether or not you feel you're an alcoholic or not ... ... ... Have you been to an AA meeting yet ??? ... Do you have, or are you looking for a sponsor ??? ... We know very little about you and until we get better acquainted, it might be hard to suggest the literature you really need at this point in your journey ...

If you are just getting to know us then you'll certainly want to read and get to know these books well ...

Books
- Alcoholics Anonymous (also known as the Big Book, BB for short here on this board)
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions (known as the 12 & 12 ...)
- Living Sober
- Dr. Bob and the Good Old Timers
- As Bill Sees It
- Came to Believe
- A New Pair of Glasses
- Pass it On
- Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age
- The Language of the Heart

Meditation
- Twenty-Four Hours a Day
- Daily Reflections
- Touchstones
- A Day at a time
- Seasons of the Spirit
- Easy Does It
- A Time to be Free
- At My Best
- A Walk with the Serenity Prayer
AND many others are good to great also ... ... ... ... ... I recommend reading no more than two Meditation books a day per year(or maybe two in the a.m. and then two more in the p.m.) ... unless you have an extraordinary mental capacity to retain all that you read ... LOL

Love ya and God Bless,

Pappy

Hi Everyone:
i
Oh gosh, I am very sorry that I didn't divulge more of myself. Yes I am alcoholic. I had a year of sobriety behind me back in 2009 but went back out. I returned to the AA halls on October 10, 2012 but on January 27, 2013 I smoked some pot so my new birthday is January 28, 2013. I am not an addict. I was only a recreational pot smoking but have since found out I am powerless over any sort of drug or alcohol. My alcoholism did not fully progress until 2007. Up until then I was a "controlled" drinker. I just turned 60 years old in November.

I do have a new sponsor and she is terrific. We are working the program in baby steps. My first attempt at sobriety I had 3 different sponsors and only got to Step 4. I am now ready, willing and able to work this program one day at a time.

I'm not real good at writing about myself so you can ask me anything and I will give you an honest answer. Thanks so much for your help.

Rebecca

I apologize, you did say that you were at least an alcoholic in your first post, I missed that ... BUT the book/meditation references are still applicable ...

good to have you aboard ... and it's nice to know a little more about you ... thanks

Welcome To the MIP family Rebecca, Hope you will stay around and share your ESH.

I don't know about tapes, but there is a internet radio station called Pandora that I use when at the gym. Just search out meditaion music after you sign up. It is a great service and free.
 www.pandora.com/

I do like the 24 hr book,  and the meditation of the day can give us peaceful thoughts to think about, for me meditaion is about totally clearing the mind and being totally present, not reading something.

I'm actually working on my yoga wall handstands for meditaion purposes LOL, so I might be the wrong person to comment on this topic.

Welcome Rebecca:) I'm not familiar with any meditation tapes, but I do read the AA Daily Reflections book every morning, along with a daily reading from Hazelden entitled "Keep it Simple" along with revisiting the BB often and Living Sober. Glad to have you with us!

Thanks everyone and nice to meet you all. I am very excited to have found this board. I love reading everybody's stories and just getting inspiration from you all. It's like a 24 hour meeting. Yesterday I celebrated 30 days. However, I have not had alcohol since October 10, 2012. Unfortunately I became powerless on January 27, 2013 and had a hit of pot. I don't even like pot that much but as my sponsor told me for some reason I was not spiritually fit that day. So my new birthday is January 28, 2013 and I am happy to have 30 days. I look forward to getting to know all you and share our courage, strength and hope with one another.
