I am chairing my home group meeting in Barbados and wanted to ask for temporary sponsors as I heard them say it in the states but do not knohorse say it correctly?
"For those of you who have worked this program and have the willingness to help and sponsor a newcomer, can we see a showing of hands?"
After hands go up, you can say something along the lines of..."if you are new to this program, or need a sponsor, please look around and get a few phone numbers from those with their hands up, and then call them. They are willing to help you."
First...welcome to MIP Gregory....In my homegroup we ask at the beginning of the meeting...In the chairperson's opening...They ask if anyone is available to be a tempory sponsor...To please raise your hand...Followed by...If anyone needs a temporary sponsor to get together with one of these people after the meeting. We decided to go with temporary sponsor....To at least get the ball rolling...You can bring that up with the group at your next group meeting. That's how we do it....Glad to have you here.
Welcome to MIP Gregory, ... ... ... we're glad to have you ...
For this area, middle Georgia, USA, ... the chairperson will close out the meeting with something like .. "will those of you here that are members of this group, please raise your hands" ... there is a pause, then ... "Will those of you here, willing to be a temporary sponsor, please raise your hands." ... ... ... if there is anyone here needing a sponsor , please see one of these people after the meeting ...
Great question ... glad you joined us Gregory ...

At my home group they keep a running list of temporary sponsors, which they announce at each meeting. They also ask each meeting for anyone willing to add their name to the temporary sponsors list.
"This meeting promotes sponsorship. If you need a sponsor and you liked something that someone shared or hear someone that has what you want, talk to them after the meeting about sponsorship."
Some meetings specify "Is there anyone with over a year sobriety that is available to be a temporary sponsor?" Some leave out the year long sobriety thing cuz there are not enough folks out there to be sponsors and having a year is not as important as having been through the steps at least 1 time.
