Somehow these two sentences precisely followed each other:
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Really the first sentence should read compare your possesions with others. Possesions have nothing to do with what kind of person we are.
Probably a vast majority of the people in this country who went to many of our homes would be envious of what "you" or "I" have.
One of the things I have learned in AA is the concept of perspective and proportion and looking at the larger picture. They told me to stay humble and focus on being grateful for what I do have.
Last time I checked laundromats are still alive and well

Literally. I picked up a cleaning job for some rich people. Today was my first day, and as I cleaned every little crevice, I seemed to find my envy there too.
Oh.... I wish I had this... I wish I had that... oooo they are so lucky... look at this washing machine! I WANT ONE!
Meanwhile - back at the farm - my own washing machine went clunckity clunckity... byeeeeeeee bye....
"Would they think it odd if I asked to bring my laundry along... LOLOLOL" sigh
Please God - please take all these defects of character from me... that I may better serve you.
Other suggestions...?

I hear the Sears repair guys can do fix it on about any kind of appliance and sooooo I befriended one. You just can't imagine what this guy can do for 25 bucks an hour!! He's never worked a full hour for me and almost always wants to refuse the money...LOL I get to be properly righteous by insisting he Take and Keep the money. We get together even when there is nothing to fix. I just won't drink with him. ((((hugs))))
Our whole program is pretty much centered around the 'Idea' ... THAT ... :
'We learn to love the life we have with what we have, NOT the life we think we want with things we wish we had' ...... one of the keys to staying sober is certainly the gift of learning to 'want' what we have ...

Wealth wise I'm in the top 1% of the world. There are nearly 7 billion people on this planet and I live a life that most of them could only dream of. I have food, shelter, running water, medical aid, warmth, electricity, refrigeration, a car, freedom of worship, speech, political expression, I live in a stable democracy that has never known political extremism, civil war or tyranny. Opportunities in my country - a is resource rich one with first world infrastructure - are based on merit and backed by the rule of law. I am surrounded by people that love me and have two happy, healthy children.
dear Tasha....I know nothing of washing machines.......but I do know....you OUTTA be writer!!!! I have noticed, I am not the first person to tell you this.....Maybe God is talkin" to you NOW! Wonderful post.....exactly what I needed this morning!!!!! Thank you.
Keep in mind .......what appears to be MAY NOT BE....... What comes to mind are alot of famous people who appear/appeared to have it all and in reality didn't. Just because the material things were glaring at you in that house does not mean it is a happy 'home' with it's occupants free of physical or emotional problems. Not saying a working washer/new washer wouldn't make your life easier. lol Just saying true happiness isn't really found in material things of this world. For what it is worth.....I bought a brand new top of the line Maytag washer about 5-6yrs. ago. Basement flooded and though I let it dry out water damaged it. My daughter bought herself a new cheaper washer and brought me her old one which was given to her by her husbands family. Guessing this old model 25-30yrs old. I'm STILL using old Besty and the Maytag sits on blocks. Seems everytime I remotely think of getting the Maytag fixed something comes up that needs more attention financially. UGH!!! As long as Betsy's got breath will keep loading her up. lol
i used to try and keep up with the joneses until i saw that i was the joneses. when i had what i wanted i was miserable. now that i have what i need, i have peace and serenity.

Do they have your beautiful children? Your handsome husband? Your good looks for that matter? Your musical talent? Your gift for words? Your sobriety? We all have gifts. Including you!!

I know a guy who seems to have it all, materially that is. The house, the cars, all the toys. Unfortunately, that's where it ends. He doesn't have a loving relationship or peace of mind. I wouldn't trade places with him for anything.
