I heard that there is a new drug that could be prescribed soon.  I think it is called Vivitrex - once monthly injection into the buttocks.  I'm not sure how I feel about it.  Does anyone know anything about this drug?

I have never heard of this, so I Googled it, and didn't find much useful info there.

MY PERSONAL OPINION ONLY; trading one substance for another doesn't help the underlying problem(s), as the bottle is just a symbol of what's really going on.  To me Vivitrex to alcohol is the same as Methodone to heroin.

I believe that I have heard of a couple of new, "promising" drugs that are being tried, which can eliminate the physical cravings for alcohol.  Though they may be helpful, they won't deal with the emotional/psychological side of addiction, as Doll said.

I would suspect that any MD or Doctor of Psychiatry would not prescribe such medication for the former, without requiring counselling for the latter.
