Thank God for those other people that relapsed and made it back to tell how good it wasn't ... NOW I don't have to go prove it to myself ... again ...

I'm so grateful to be sober tonight.  There were so many people who came in to this evenings meeting that have been around since I have, that confessed to a relapse tonight.  It was shocking how many and I thought of the difficulty people have with the holidays... but then I remembered, we're just alcoholics, and that's what we do without conscious contact with the God of our understanding:  We drink  disbelief  and it aint pretty.

I plan to keep talking to this God I do not understand another night.

They were proof enough for me tonight to keep at it.

I have been around drinking family members this holiday.  I have over two years sober now. It gets easier. Once I had over a year of sobriety, I had a rock solid program in place so I cant say that it will never or has never happened. And I went out for a week. By the end of that week the damage was severe. The first step is where its at.  I remind myself constantly that it will not be different for me ever.  Now, living on a spiritual basis, I have been given something far better than anything that has come forth of a drink.

Why, yes I am as a matter of fact! I was actually just talking with a friend of mine who's father died of alcoholism at 48, and who has a brother who keeps relapsing- and refuses anything AA related. It's heartbreaking to hear, and to see the frustration, pain and anger it's causing my friend. I'm very grateful tonight that I've embraced AA and sobriety... And praying for those who have yet to do so.

Thanks Tasha,

Glad I came here. The football game was making me want to drink haha smile

It's so important to make sobriety the most important thing in your life and put it into action....everyday.

My sponsor told me there is absolutly no justification to pick up a drink,  it can only destroy the things in life that are worthwhile.  It seems like some people think they have 9 lives or something,  if you are out of self and helping drunks,  I don't see how you can drink.

Yep, the time adds up..........since Feb/2005!!
Buried a 41 year old friend Saturday. A tragic reminder, which reminds me of the fatal nature of the disease of alcoholism. No joke, one drink can lead to our deaths. You'd think that would be enough to keep people sober huh?!
Cunning, powerful and baffling........it can take anyone down.
Thanks for reminding me......

That's it. Who else but alcoholics would drink when they had no intention in the world of doing such a thing? Not those 'normies' out there, that's for sure. It's a hard road, and who knows how many of us will make it to the end sober, but we have today. We got a God given miracle this 24 hours. Sometimes in my lighter moments I think that it makes it all worth while.

I agree with pappy. I hate to see anyone go back out but when they do normally they're kind enough to come back and let me know it still doesn't work.
