tough finding a sponsor
Permalink

I am finding it hard to get a sponsor. It has not been for the lack of trying. I have had two, neither of whom mentioned the steps or did any work with me on this. I did not fall out with either of them, the relationships just petered out. I always made contact but it does not progress from there. I go to four to five f2f meeting per week but need a sponsor. Do I keep asking until I find someone committed to sponsorship? I have AA members that I discuss things with and it would be a rare week that I did not have contact with a member outside a meeting. I go to all the step meetings and tradition meetings but know that I should be doing more on the programme as I am beginning to get quite anxious.

Why don't you try an 'on-line' sponsor until you can find a suitable f2f one ??? ... I don't think it could hurt anything ... if you're seeking guidance with the steps, there are several great sober women here that may offer to help you ... but there is still a lot of importance in finding a good f2f sponsor when you get to step 5 ... although a person outside AA could be selected for that step ...

Hello Maire!

I could only suggest making even different meetings if the ones you are going to are the same.I also would sit with any prospective sponsor as I did with my sponsees and let them know   the importance of doing Step work if they are going to move forward  and among other things like call frequency, what I do and dont do as a sponsor etc..I found it better, for me, and also my sponsees to know up front the most successful way I found for our relationship to flourish, one helping another......Its really what a sponsor is for to help guide us thru the STEPS.WE are responsible for our own recoveries and when seeking a sponsor/listening for one, I could only suggest that you let whoever know that you are intent on getting into the solution. This is my own stuff and there are many different forms of sponsor /sponsee relationships.I also had a sponsor early who was an avid , carryinging the message of recovery inside the prison system, under the bridge type of alcoholic, mid 80's who didnt pursue step work with me,was gruff and impatient, but was a major influence on my recovery going forward,.He died very early in our relationship, but a seed was planted...Be persistent and it will happen.Happy New Year and continued blessings...Keep God (of your understanding on top of all things)and .More is always revealed....PeacesmileRoger also has thoughts of online sponsorship...WE do whatever it takes :)

You are on the right track..maybe pressing a bit hard.."Let go and let god..Find someone that you really like and look up to..sponsors find you not the other way around..Sponsorship is a spiritual thing more than physical..same sponsors as when I came in 39 years ago...a few have passed on..
