We let one or two people share after each "confession", it was over all really cool to see not only the shameful things but also funny things like "called out of work sick and took my kid out of school to go to the park" Sorry python we posted at the same time. This meeting happens every 5th week of the month but after sandy they decided we needed levity to get our minds going again.

There was a game my friends and I used to play "have you ever" and you sit in a circle and go around each person asks "have you ever...[names something they've done]" I've been exploring meetings lately in my area and there was a candle lit meeting that played this game during their 5th step discussion. In previous weeks they had a box where you would drop in something you've done (funny or hurtful drunk sober or dry) and the speaker picked from that box and read them. If you had done something similar to what was read, you raised your hand.at the end of the meeting, we stood up, clapped and thanked everyone for their honesty. It's the best meeting I've attended thus far. Really brought home the "similarities not differences" Thought I'd share thanks.

Wow... sounds like something cool and different! Was there some disscussion on each issue after it was read? Just seems a little short if you were doing a whole meeting on raising your hand.

Hi Neo, ...

This sounds rather exciting ... it's similar to the box my old group used to pass around at the beginning of a 'Beginners' Meeting where we had a Panel of 3 one year+ members that had worked through at least the 8th step(I believe) ... their would field questions from the box and discuss them ... the group still does this once a week ...

How often do they have this "have you ever" meeting ... and what period of time is used to collect 'have you ever' slips in the box ??? ... well, duh, I guess it would be the same period of time between meetings, huh ? ... just curious ...

Pappy

I see, ... like where there's a fifth Monday or a fifth Friday or something like that ... that occurs about every third month or so ... got it ...

I was just trying to come up with something 'different' to suggest at our next 'group conscious' meeting ...

Thanks

That's awesome Neo. We have a newcomers candlelight vigil in our area once a month. The entire meeting is illuminated by candles. The other part sounds just as wonderful. I might just try that at my home group, who knows. Thanks again for taking this journey with us, it's always a blessing.

Sounds like a great meeting format Neo!  A way for all to open up in a comfortable setting.  I can see where growth can begin or enhanced from there.  Great stuff!  Thanks for sharing.  smile

I really like the idea Neo, maybe I will try it at the women's meeting!
