I haven't seen that movie yet. Did it just come out?  Maybe I'll have a chance this weekend. Thanks again for the heads up, Mike.

Brought back so many memories! Truly grateful to be alive and in God's grace......a powerful story of the devastation of our illness,I went into the movie blind and came out in the Light.......It literally reached my core and had me crying in relief  and  feeling the freedom from  that horrible 25 years of a totally sick life that at times  now seems so distant and at other times like yesterday.... so blessed a day at a time.........

I believe it is about a severely alcoholic pilot.

WOW, ... I may have to go see it as well ... It probably won't go over to good in my group ... We have several pilots as members ...
2 or 3 still actively flying ... and one who's face was posted nationally when he got escorted off his fight when he made national News ...
Yep, he'd had more than the limit of alcohol prior to his flight (the first I ever saw on the News)... and they arrested him as he was doing
his 'pre-flight' 'check list' ...

In fact, I went to Rehab and 'aftercare' treatment with him ... he remains sober today and is a great AA'r ... He struggled through
early sobriety, as we all did, but he found his 'spiritual connection' and has regained community respect ... I wouldn't dare mention
even his first name 'cause it's still a real sore spot with Delta ...

He got 're-certified' to fly 767's but has a lot less desirable flights now ... mostly mid-eastern countries ... usually gone a few weeks
at a time now, but always comes to meetings when he's in town ... his wife asked for a divorce after he made the News, but now he
has a 'significant other' who is also a member of our group and has a PHD in Psychiatry ... yep, she's one of us too and is moderately
active in this area ...

All I can think of is WOW, how'd you like a drunk pilot ??? ... it hasn't been that long ago that both the pilot and co-pilot were napping
and over-shot their destination by a couple of hundred miles and had to turn around ... ... Interesting!

Yes the Pilot thing is scary, not dissimilar though to a tractor trailer or bus driver, train engineer etc...The real crux of the story,as you see it,  is the denial and devastation in all the areas of our lives this illness portrays, the freedom it robs us of and the obliteration of any type of sane relationship in our lives .Nuff said, gave me shivers and brought a tear of joy to my eye and heart as I said,   as I looked back at my life ,being pulled from the muck and mire and my feet set on solid ground...WE didnt even know what the movie was about when we went last week, imagine my surprise as I watched it(my life) unfold.....

Okay Mike, ... now I've gotta go see it ... not that I need to relive my past though, cause I don't ... I am just wondering
what Hollywood did ... if they did justice to the problem or if they went too far, just to add drama ... of course I brought
so much drama to my life, guess it wouldn't be out of the ordinary, huh ? ... LOL

It was not any more drama than most of us had... probably less actually.

Yes I didnt feel it was about drama for me, it reminded me of my quarter century of denial and how easy it is for this illness to totally capture our lives, the relationships  that I couldn't keep, the getting high to get straight to get high, the loss of family and employment all in general.  Days of Wine and Roses my first view of alcoholism at the age of 10 definitely had much more drama. For I was soon after to become part of that drama..Was it a great film, probably not ,was it like Bill W.,no was it a reminder that without  total surrender and emotional acceptance of utter defeat we are doomed to the same jail, institutions deriliction or death. For me a big 10-4...........smile.

Sounds great, will look forward to seeing this movie.

The guy in the link, Lyle, is one of my inspirations, and is, I hope, one of the people they spoke to when writing this movie. Lyle is the person in the Big Book story "Grounded".
