Here's why I love AA

When I'm really happy and excited, it isn't a fleeting moment of joy.  It isn't just that synthetic feeling I get after 2 drinks that only hangs on 10 minutes... which I pay for dearly with hours and sometimes days of drunken stooper.

It's more like that feeling you get when you're 6, and you know it's the day you get to go to the carnival, and you've saved up 100 dollars, and that's your life time earnings, and you didn't really earn any of it, people gave it to you freely cuz you were born, and sometimes cuz of another Guy who was born, and you BLOW it ALL, and no one stops you, and you don't care cuz you're 6 and you don't know any better, and you're happy you saved a little for cotton candy to eat on the ride home, and the cotton candy is made of real sugar, and you don't care, but the feeling lasts a lifetime, and it changes, and it becomes different, and you see more about how great it really was, differently with each year you get to live, but it's always really great, no matter how you look at it.

It lasts.

Alcohol brought moments of pleasure, maturing in sobriety brings real joy...and yes, it lasts. *shares some cotton candy with you*

Hahaha! I love that! Good for a Monday morning smile as I drink my first cup of coffee. Thanks for the share! Nice to start the day off smiling, yeah? I may read it every morning this week!

And compare that to the way you were thinking 7 months ago.... Wow! You are so much more alive....

Love the analogy Tashia.

I must say, I have been blessed with a great life. To think that at first I wanted to just stop drinking and move on with my life. I had no desire to join some group and go to meetings for the rest of my life, but all this AA stuff really changed me from the inside-out and I fell in love with it and you all. Glad I didn't stop at "not drunk anymore".

Few are privileged to save lives. Fewer have the experience of being God's helper in the gift of a second life.

I love your analogy Tasha. It reminds me of my local fair, food and all. I can almost feel the excitement from here. I love everything about fairs, especially the food vendors. Cotton candy is always one of my favorites. So I guess you're right after all; cotton candy and sobriety do bode well together. They're also similar in one respect; they're both sweet. So keep those posts coming dear, it's a sweet reward if there ever was one.

Yes, and think where we would be if Bill W. didn't have a bit of excitement for his miracle in progress : )

That is the part that always astounds me - his enthusiasm and excitement for sobriety have now saved millions of lives. It inspires me to not just sit back and let someone else do it. My higher powers will for my life is always always handed to me with a smile, how could I not reflect such a simple value to uphold!?
