I smoked pot from 14 to 23 years old everyday at least 10 times a day. I drank from 23 til 31. i did outpatient, i did psych counsling, recently i had 13 months sober and lost it. I now have a sponsor and have one week in. I feel like its a totally differnt ballgame when you have a sponsor. the whole recovery seems differntly better. still have the ups and downs. thanks for letting me share
You didn't lose your 13 months sobriety, you still have that to reflex on ... just use that as your wisdom of knowing what path not to follow this time ... Sobriety is a learning process ... we all have room to improve ...

Thanks for the intro, and welcome to the family. Stick around, we have several newbies and retreads here now as well as a bunch of seasoned sober folks too.
i have to agree with Pappy,,you didnt lose it. You have it to learn from. i only say that because this is my second go round and i have definetly reflected on my first experiences.
Welcome Jay. You sound like the rest of us. Glad your here. When my first sponsor asked me if I was willing to go to any lengths to stay sober one day at a time for the rest of my life I lied and said yes. Then after just shy of eight months i drank again and got an ass kicking beyond ass kicking. Then i was willing, better then willing i was desperate. I hope you desperate too.
Is seasoned like old?

I think Dean was referring to us old guys that eat a lot of Mexican and Cajun food ... LOL ... If you look carefully, we leave a trail ... watch, sniff, and listen ...

Welcome to the MIP board. You are right a good sponsor can be a big help, we need to be accountable. Just remember a sponsor can't keep you sober or get you drunk. Keep in mind to never put anyone on a pedestal, and it's up to you to do the leg-work.

a sponsor can give you hope. a sponsor gives you tools. a sponsor gives u direction and support. no a sponsor doesnt get u sober or drunk....but guess what i get drunk without one so nothing to lose.
also yes we need to be accountable for ourself....but a sponsor taught me that....whether i do or not is me..but now i know what i have to do...up to me to do it.

Exactly. What step are you on now with your sponsor?
Welcome Yayo. My first sponsor told me AA was more about change than about drinking/not drinking. Working the steps with your sponsor will create change. They say the same person will drink again. Hence, I am excited for you to begin this process of stepwork and now being accountable to your sponsor.
