Hurricanes, elections, and olympics.

It would seem I've been sober for a long time (coming up on 4 years right?).  So I live in Ft. Lauderdale.  Currently we have a tropical storm going to the west of us and are feeling severe rain bands and some wind.  Nothing that bad.  Nonetheless, we have not been hit by a hurricane or even a bad storm since 2005.  My only recollection of hurricanes here in Florida is always getting hammered drunk cuz I figured I would be off work.  If the power went out, I inevitably walked right into a tree or a wall and had a big bruise on my face/head.  I typically passed out and woke up to survey my damage and then the damage to the world also. That is what I used to do during hurricanes.  So, this would be the 1st sober storm I have been through lol.

Similarly, when the olympics were on, in 2008, I don't remember any of them really.  I remember getting wasted and cheering.  That was at the very tail end of my drinking...summer 2008.  This year, whatever I saw, I remember clearly.

All leading up to the 2008 election, I was so wasted that I couldn't have cared who won.  When election day came around, I had 1 month sober and change.  I waited in line for 4 hours but had to leave cuz I was doing 90 in 90 at the time and it was actually more important to go to that meeting than vote.  So that's what I did.  First election rolling around where I've been sober the whole campaign.

So, it's odd that some things happen only every 4 years (or longer).  It reminds me that it hasn't been that long even though sometimes it feels like it.

Well, your choice to go the meeting instead of voting was perhaps a fortuitous one in more than way. You can't be blamed for the economic mess we're in.  no

I hope you make it through the storm down there without calamity.

Hey Mark,

Hope you make it throught the storm Ok. I hope we get a little of the aftermath here in GA, hasn't rained here in a couple weeks.

We probably didn't need another hanging chad ballot from S. Fla anyway smile

This year you know what to do...vote early and vote often.

Just popped on to wish both you and Dean well with hurricane Isaac. It's on the news here in Liverpool, U.K. I hope neither of you or anyone else here and the residents from there be adversely affected. God bless you all. And hey, PC, well done waking up to the world! Wonderful to see you growing into your full self. So beautiful. Recovery love and fellowship, Danielle x

Great share - prayers for the storm. Pretty funny about smacking into a pole or tree every time - you need to use that in your "story". By the way - can we get recorded cd's of speeches you guys have done?

Nice reflection Mark!  I could definately relate.  Nice to see Florida will miss the brunt of the storm, but looks like LA is on the radar.  Prayers sent to all who live on the Gulf Coast.

Watching it sober is going to be a whole lot more exciting than having it pass over you drunk.  Praying for you Mark and will be watching the news from clear, hot, dry and lovely Hawaii.   smile

Well we don't get many hurricanes up in the Northeast.. And my prayers are with those that may be hit with this one. We deal with blizzards up here. Last winter we had a lot of snow, or was it the winter prior? Dunno.. Was too busy having 'blizzard parties'. GREAT excuse to drink your face off.. And perfectly acceptable! Haha, man, I used to head out in a blizzard to go to the only places open- BARS! I'm looking forward to staying in this winter and reading books or something:) how liberating
