This is a WE program.

I came home with the greatest feeling from a meeting today and it was because of a certain thing I realized and heard while I was at the club today, and it's the fact that this is a WE program.  When us alcoholics are sick, we dont know that we have other people in our lives who care and who can relate to our problems, and thats the biggest danger abnout our disease is were isolated somewhere alone, drinking and we dont know that WE have people, and not only do WE have people, WE have our creator, God, whatever you call it in our lives as well.  I had the best talk with my mother today after dinner on the phone and it was cause I could tell that I have someone closeby who cares and that Im not out in some city of concrete and solitude scared and walking the street at night worryinig about everything the fear of alcoholism gives us.  Im feeling completely at home and its because I got the WE part of this life through my head and I've realized how much better I have it than I thought.  I have more people in my life that Im connected with than I even thought and its really good, its starting to feel like home again, Im at my 8 and a half plus months of sobriety and I can see a life I seemed to have lost so long ago, I've been trusting god, cleaning house, and helping others and its really paying off doing whatever it takes in this program to get your life back, especially when you realize the WE part of it, that your not actually alone in some city, some apartment, on some street, a million miles away in some sick world, theres actually people closeby who can identify with your problems, and I urge anyone whos in this program whos suffering with these feelings, to pick up the phone and find a meeting and realize that your not alone in this mess and thats a big factor of the illness if you ever see it, is realizing that your not the one person whos a million miles away going through this, theres people all over who can identify with you and understand your problems, its a hard thing to see for a lot of us but when you do you might realize how many more people you got and how good of a thing it is.

What I'm trying to get across in my not so good language is a quote that basically sums up what Im trying to say, I forget where I read it but it goes:

"Theres nothing worse than feeling all alone.  Especially when theres lot 's of people around"

Closer.

That is the kind of post that keeps this program front and center in our lives. Thanks Closer.

Thank Closer - I love your posts - we must have came into the program at the same time! When is your sobriety date? I came in Dec. 26th, although I had a slip so my actual sobriety date is March 25th, but still, we learn the whole time if we keep coming back. I never stopped going to meetings... and I new AA was the answer, I was just doing half measure - which availed me nothing but a later sobriety date than the one I would like to proclaim. ;)

This would illustrate my tag line. AA (if worked well) plugs us back into a social network and from there it gets us back in the world at large as people who can give, receive, and be part of something meaningful that was just not there when we were broken, miserable, and drunk.

You're so right Closer. It's more than just a 'we' program, at least it is for me. It's a way for us to connect -mind, body and spirit. So keep that momentum going, Closer. It can only get better from here.

Thanks Closer, Glad your are feeling good and working the program. The results show.

I couldn't stay sober 2 days by myself. I need the people of AA and they need me, so I need to love you and be tolerant, because my life depends on it.

Our common welfare comes first, personal recovery depends on AA unity.....I saw this somehere.

What a great post....I think I heard correct in a meeting once...The word "We" is used in the Big Book over 1800 times....I didn't bother to count...But I believe it. Keep on keeping on Closer!
