1st time I heard this I thought , wow, that described me perfectly for thirteen years after learning of AA ... cause it took 13 years for me to dumb up enough to come back and stay ...

I always accomplished pretty much anything in my life that I wanted to ... I figured out some pretty tough engineering problems in my career that have astounded others ... So I always knew I could fix myself when I got ready to ... Problem ??? ... When I was ready to and tried, I failed ... for years I tried to stop or moderate my drinking, I always failed ... But I knew I was too smart to fail ... When I finally said, I need help, which I'd never done before, then I surrendered the the fact I would never be smart enough to beat this thing on my own ...

Heard at a meeting tonight:

"Sometimes you can be too smart for this program, but you can never be too dumb."

I think there is a hell of a lot of truth in that.

I've heard it and I've seen it. I have a brother too smart for it. Needs a little more pain to dumb him up.

The 4 horsemen of denial Youth, Health, Wealth, and Brains. If an alcoholic has to many of these, chances of recovery are slim till he/she diminishes some of these excess assets.

Great thread - I'm struggling with keeping my mouth shut and remembering I need to stay focused on myself for a long while yet.
