"The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker." AA BOOK Pg30.
AA does not sober up alcoholics. Instead it removes this obsession, through it's design for living in the 12 steps. If we remove the obsession, then we do not succumb to the 1st drink. Emotional deformities in the form of defects of character, are repaired by the working of the 12 steps. The result is a restoration to sanity by the working of God in our lives. Emotional balance. Intellectual balance. Balanced personality, resulting in spiritually awakened person.
I love this.. When I first read this (before attending my first meeting) it changed me fundamentally. At that point I somewhat of the "I'm on the wagon" mentality.. Like I'll just get my head together and THEN I can drink like a normal person. As soon as I read those words I instantly knew and accepted the fact that I was a true alcoholic. I dunno, those words just woke me up. Thanks for posting:)
