SO I NEEDED A MEETING...

Okay, I admit that I'd dropped to maybe 2 meetings a week this past few weeks(I usually get to 3 or 4 a week) .... You know how we sit around and rationalize things??? ... Well, I kept telling myself that my constant 'sleepyness' is due to these new 'heart' meds they've got me on ... well, ... that is true, but I started using this as an excuse for things I don't feel like doing ... I've brought this issue up at the Doc's but they want me to try to acclimate to these meds before they start changing them up ...

SO, ... I'm going through some old 'archived' emails today when I came across the one titled "The Silent Meeting" ... 'Which I posted here, by-the-way' ... and as I was finishing here at MIP, I got a phone call from a guy I hadn't seen in a year ... Turns out, he's chairing tonight's 6:30pm meeting and wanted me to be the 'discussion leader' ... I hesitated, then said I'd be glad to ... You see, I have made it a habit to spend Saturday and Sunday nights at home, IF, my wife is in town ... (she travels a lot - business) ... (and my 1st 2 years, I spent nearly all my time in meetings, every day) ... This is one of the big benefits of being sober ... my wife and I spending time together ... having dinner together ... and when I went upstairs to ask if we could postpone dinner?, ... she said 'of-course' ... you see, she too, is grateful to AA and is willing for the occasional inconvenience to occur in order to keep me spiritually where I need to be ... Ain't life grand??? ... Had to share this with John, cause God does indeed, work in mysterious ways ...

Sh_t, ... I just remembered our wedding anniversary is the 20th ... what's today??? ... ... ... Holy Cow, I gotta get something ... ... ... SOON!!!!!   (39th anniversary)

Love ya'll, and I gotta go get ready for the meetin' ...
God Bless,
Pappy

Last Monday morning I was laying in bed knowing I wasn't going to make an afternoon meeting.  A morning meeting is what I needed!  We have a club that has 7am meetings each week day (or so I thought).  Laying in bed at 5:15am and not able to sleep, I thought I better check the schedule just to make sure.  After looking at the schedule I noticed there wasn't a 7am meeting but there was 730, that I can't make because I need to be at work by 815, and a 6am.  I got my lazy butt out of bed, with the help of my God, prayed, and made the 6am meeting.

We're getting the meeting started and reading "How It Works" and The Traditions, then they ask if it's anyones first time at that meeting!  Of course it's 6am, it was mine.... haha.  They then asked if it was anyone's first time EVER at an AA meeting.  My alcoholic brain thinking "YEAH RIGHT".  Well, it was someones first time EVER at an AA meeting.

I got a chance to share my experience, strength and hope with the group and the newcomer.  It's a blessing to know that God woke me up that morning, got me out of bed at 515am, and hit my knees, and gave me an opportunity just to be present in a 6am AA meeting with a person at their first meeting.  Thank to the lady sharing it was her first meeting EVER, put me in a feeling of gratitude and knowing that the solution is there for everyone to reach out and grab, even at 6am.

Nice post Pappy...I liked that Silent Meeting one also...If you're the discussion leader tonight...I'd say you could get a great topic out of these.

Last time I was having a tough night a guy called me at 10pm and asked me to speak the next day
that gave me a little piece of mind that earlier, I had made the right decision about a debate with myself. Let God do his work and get out of the way!

Tonight's meeting was good ... Chairperson was Roger #1 and then me as discussion leader, Roger #2 ... LOL

I told everyone we were twins ... and (since he intro'd himself as Roger #1) I said since I was #2, then you knew who was older ... then I said BUT, he's found a facial cream that makes him look younger than me ... and it's so expensive, that I have to go around looking all shriveled up while he looks like he's in his twenties ... (this is close to the truth ... he's older than me ... I'm 59 ... and damn if he don't look a lot younger ... AND he DOES use very expensive cream ...)

Hey John, ... my sponsor always taught me to 'never say no' when asked to do any kind of service work, as long as I was able ... and I love your comment ... "Let God do his work and get out of the way! " ... Amen ...

Hey Stepchild, you're absolutely correct, ... all one needs to do for a 'topic' for discussion at an upcoming meeting, is to peruse this site for a minute ... plenty to choose from ...

So John, it turns out I needed a meeting too ...

God Bless,
Pappy

P.S.   Our meeting topic turned out to be "Expectations are Premeditated Resentments"
