I was born on a Navy base and lived on many others. Dad was a Navy carrier Pilot, did 28 years retired as an 05, ending his career at the Pentagon. Now he's performing erosion control on the banks of the Potomac at Arlington National Cemetery . I spent some time in and around his duty stations, including a few aircraft carriers. My father was a bit of a Navy snob, made lots of one liner references about the depts of the Navy as well as other branches of service. He said that "there are aviators, and submariners...THEN there are 'the others', the black shoes, meaning other shipboard personal. I shared that with a Chief petty officer of some sort of battle cruiser. He said "tell your dad that he never has to pull our ships out of his skies, but we pull an awful lot of his planes out of the our seas".
