I am new to the AA program and to this message board. I've been to a few meetings in my area, but have not been consistently going with my new work schedule. I am glad to have found this board to share stories, get support, and give support.
A little bit about myself: where I grew up both of my parents and relatives drank in large amounts, my uncle got into a lot of trouble because of his drinking, and it was the norm (unfortunately). Because alcohol was everywhere in the house, sometimes I would have some on a day off. I would hide it in powerade bottles and drink and listen to music or watch tv shows. When I was in college I drank a lot and especially at Christmas parties or places where there were multiple bottles of wines and beers. I would drink, feel really good, then throw up and feel bad the next day. After a pattern of drinking too much, I decided it was time to get help. I went to my first meeting and understood that no matter where you are in your life, we all have strong desires and need to help eachother to be strong in order to avoid drinking. I hope to share more, attend more meetings, and be strong.
Welcome Mike...Somebody explained this program to me that made it real easy for me. Study the literature....Go to meetings.....Get a sponsor....Work the steps. It's as simple as that.
