So today I have 19 days sober. Attended my first meeting last night. I did this kinda backwards..ordering my big book online cuz the thought of attending a
Meeting was overwhelming. I joined this group online cuz it was safer at a distance. I had to scope you all out, cuz I wasn't sure if I was one of "those people"..yknow what I mean. Well I certainly am one of those/these people. I've known that for years, I simply chose to continue drinking while contemplating my pathetic fate. I tried to regulate my drinking..it got worse. I tried to reason with myself..drinking got worse. I prayed to, begged and cursed God..drinking got worse. I hit many "bottoms" thinking this is the lowest I could go..well you know how that goes. Sooo I swallowed my stubborn pride last night and truly admitted defeat. It's a strange and liberating feeling. I didn't say anything really, just some introductions, got and gave #s. 4 women called me after meeting to talk about other meetings elsewhere. I'm thinking"oh god..now these people are gonna want me to go to meetings all the f in time!" haha. And it felt comforting..I am going to be going to meetings all the f in time. Sooo I guess I am now officially one of those people I scoffed at for years lol. Weird huh? :)
Hey Colleen, ... ... ... WELCOME to the LOONY bin ... ... ... LOL
Now that you're officially one of us .... I can call you 'sister' ... ... Ha!
I know I speak for many of us when I say that your above post is something I/we 'identify with' all too well ... Congrats on 19 days and i wish you a good start on a journey that you'll want to remember instead of the one you're hoping to forget ...
God Bless and may 'The Force' be with you, Pappy

Hey Colleen, welcome to the other side! Many things, about recovery, are paradoxical (or counter intuitive) in nature. What we think is going to be horrible turns out to be joining a cool club. lol I now have 100's, perhaps 1000's of very cool brothers and sisters that I never had in my family of origin. it's been very healing and made me smile. I'm now "one of those people" that I first saw in the rooms, that was unjustifiably happy.
Thanks for sharing and welcome. I too remember the "strange and liberating feeling". I knew my life would change if I followed a few of the things I heard, I later realized it was the begining of a spirtual expeerience.

Hey guys thanks for feedback! Question though.. I work 2 jobs and can really only feasibly do 5 meetings this week(2 of which are back to back). Does this make me an aa slacker? Was reading responses to Tasha's 90x90post..but I'm a lot newer than her.
Well you might get a lot of different feedback on this question. You might want to ask one of the women you met to be a temp sponsor and explain your situation and make a plan moving forward, everyone has different life variables. If you can make 90 in 90 that is great, I have seldom seen anyone do this and not attain long term sobriety.
I would think 5 meetings a week while working 2 jobs is pretty good. You can supplement with this forum, online speaker recordings and phone contact of course.
I'm thinking"oh god..now these people are gonna want me to go to meetings all the f in time!" haha. And it felt comforting..I am going to be going to meetings all the f in time. Sooo I guess I am now officially one of those people I scoffed at for years lol. Weird huh? :)
Heh. I scoffed too. I thought it was some sort of cult / hare krishna style place. Or something like that.
I'll let you in on a little secret: this group you've joined makes you one of the luckiest people alive. You are going to get a chance to build a new you. A happy, content and loving you. You'll get in touch with yourself and the world around you in ways very few non alcoholics will ever get to do. First you'll do it because you have to, then you'll do it because you want to. And the price of admission is a bunch of self defeating habits and mannerisms you didn't want any way.
But Shhhh. If all those normies out there knew what we had they'd all want it, and then it would be a hassle for the rest of us to get the good seats.
Colleen check for morning, noon, and 5:30 meetings in your area. Even if you arrive a little late and leave a little early to noon meetings, it still counts.
