Try Not To Forget

One of my sponcees lost his father to cancer last night. Fortunately, he's got almost 5 years in and a solid program so he should be OK. I lost my mother to that in 1996. I think I had 3 weeks under my belt. Everyone was complimenting me on how well I was handling it. But I wasn't handling it at all. I was just waiting for everyone else to stop crying so I could. Yesterday was her birthday and I made a fbook status update to the effect that if she was up there listening, I wanted her to know I was doing okay. She was always so happy I was in AA. I didn't sober up until after she left us but she never stopped believing in me.

I was just thinking how fortunate some of you are to still have these people in your life watching you grow. Try not to forget how lucky you are. Because it could all change tomorrow. So, call up your mom or dad and let them know you love them. Just in case.

I think I'm going to stick close to my sponcee, to make sure he doesn't forget to cry.

Terrible disease.  We are all ticking time bombs.  Knowing this, we somehow put it out of our minds and live our lives to the fullest.  Can we not do that with our disease of alcholism, too?  Sure.  Why not?  And, there's even better news for our alcoholism:  I, you can stop the clock, snuff out the fuse, disarm the time bomb.  How hopeful this is, yes?
