Daily Affirmation with Stuart Smalley

Stuart Smalley is a caring nurturer, a member of several twelve-step programs, but not a licensed therapist. His show "Daily Affirmations" is on a cable access channel. The show is geared to help people with mental disabilities, such as overeating, drug abuse, and alcoholism.

Stuart himself grew up with a dysfunctional family. His father was "a big stinking drunk" who called chubby Stuart, "a waste of space." Stuart's mom is "a total loon and in complete denial about Dad's drinking," while his brother is a dope addict. Still, Stuart maintains a good and positive attitude throughout his show, while helping people solve their problems.

Okay, I started this so I'd better straighen it out. Stuart Smally is a fictional SNL, Saturday Night Life charachter played by Al Franken making fun of 12 step programs.. I know what you did Doll, you googled and clicked the first page on top. Would have fooled me too if I didn't know who he was. Sorry.

um.... yeah. Stuart Smalley is not real.  In fact, he's kind of offensive.  Now Foghorn Leghorn...he's the real deal.  Mike in Boston...

by the way.. how are you doing username?

Thanks for asking Mike. A better day today but thay doesn't mean it's good. No drinking, and she hasn't left me yet. Her stuff has been packed and sitting in bags and boxes by the front door for a week. Still don't why she's still here. Is she waiting for an apartment, or is she hesitating because she's unsure it's what she really wants to do. Refuses to talk about our relationship, very torturous days for me.

wow,,  I can understand how torturous it would be to look at those bags and be wondering, and have my spouse refuse to discuss things. Silence is not always golden. Might you suggest marriage counseling at this point? to help you two to discuss things?

It looks like you're working the minute by minute little Steps though.  Good for you! Have you attended any face2face meetings yet?

Stuart Smalley?  hmmm...  I thought he was one of a couple of guys that wrote a couple of books....   oh, wow..  I found this:

Actually right now the alcohol seems secondary. It's the pain in my heart that is more than I can handle. I break down hourly. Having a bad start to the day, wish there was a meeting for that. (tears)

There's a local meeting tonight but I don't think it will do any good for me..........
