Came across this newspaper story from 1955 totally by accident - I was googling something completely different and saw this on list of hits -- and was blown away by it, not just about the destructivesness of the disease and the pathos, but the desire of some good people to try to what they could to help us alkies, even if not on a spiritual basis.

Interestingly, that was the same year that "AA came of age", with the 20 year anniversary St Louis convention.

I wonder if "Skid Row Bill" every found the Fellowship?

Interesting read Steve. A very kind and understanding judge. It is also interesting that the manner of speaking as reported is quite similar to that used in the Big Book.
Bill certainly sounded like a sitter for the fellowship.
