In the AA book Doctors Opinion, the alcoholic is declared as a hopeless case by the medical fraternity in 1939. Not only are we defenseless over the first drink, but we are without any help from any human source. But the good doctor goes outside his scientific boundaries to declare that only a psychic change can help us. This set the platform for AA's spiritual program of 12 steps, which was engineered by God to reach out to the most helpless and hopeless alcoholic and lift him up beyond any human expectation.
Thank you Gonee! Miracles happen to those who believe in them. Took me a while of observing Gods work before I started to believe. I had to see it materialize in others. Once I started to believe the miracle started to happen. I'm very grateful for that!
I feel it is important to be clear that Dr Silkworth is talking about a particular type of alcoholic which he had come to regard as hopeless. In our book we call ourselves real alcoholics. Silkworth makes it clear that there are other types, probably in the majority, that the professionals could, did, and still do help, we call them hard drinkers. It is indeed a miracle that hopeless cases of my type can recover if we engage in the recovery process laid out in the 12 steps.
God bless, MikeH

Thank you. God works through people and he sure works through the new found friends that I have found in the rooms. And when I work with a newcomer I always ask my God to help me.
If they don't want it there is nothing I can do and Its there way of not waiting for the miracle to happen.
Like the ticking of the clock every moment changes and I must change too.
