I gave a lift back home to 3 members who came to the meeting in the back of a truck. They are 3 of the humblest people I had come into contact with.
The one sister is 1 year sober and she lives in a shack. She has such a love for God and fellow members. She earns a living washing clothes for people.
The one brother is mentally challenged, sober 1 year and is a secretary of his group. He is not employed.
The other brother is cripple and slightly brain damaged. He is 17 years sober and works to help other physically disabled people.
The greatest thing all these people is they have such a dignity about themselves. They work the steps as suggested and attend meetings all the time. None of them wanted anything material nor did they care for it, they were just grateful to be sober in AA. I felt like a thief amongst them, stealing their joy and godly love. They gave to me what money cannot buy.
I will meet with them again, just to recharge my spiritual batteries. It's the poor and weak that are spiritually strong because they are humble.
Nothing makes me more grateful than going to a meeting in some areas of poverty. It is just amazing to see people who stay sober against all odds and are so grateful for the basics of life.

Gotta admit that I hesitated opening this thread. Self centeredness still, mostly, occupies the space where humility should be living. Thanks, Gonee, for the wakeup call.
