I am just astounded by the lack of faith out there! It almost appears it is "cool" to denigrate faith. I work in a technical field and we have a forum. It just amazes me that not only are the younger guys attacking religion, they are embracing darkness. The subjects included how stupid people are that believe in "imaginary people" and how arrogant people of faith are. One guy changed his avitar to 666 and renamed himself "The Devil". I stated my views, and let them "win", but wow.
Its particularly maddening at this time of year. Ah, another example of things I can not change. I actually do feel sorry for them and happy that if their lifes circumstances change and they do cry out for help, help will be there!
Merry HigherPowermas!

Guess we just need to live and let live. Many everywhere have issues with Religion, and don't understand the difference between spirituality and religion.
as my 1st sponsor wrote inside the 1st page of my Big Book "Keep the Faith"

Yes there are many different "programs" out there and I've got the one I've chosen to live by. I gave up a "my" program to get the one I live by now and am glad I did. I am powerless over those other ones so I don't get moved by them. I've seen a ton of them over my life time including the one I was raised in..."they to have their story" and it's okay. I've got choices for how I want to respond or not depending on the consequences I choose. All it took for me from the start was a "little faith" and open mindedness and patience and tolerance and courage and persistence and more...I didn't like AA when I first got introduced and I didn't like alcoholics and anything about them and then over time by the grace of God I am one. Go figure. The difference a Higher Power can make huh?
Get a little faith and then get a little more...((((hugs))))

I imagine there are a million definitions of religion, and a million definitions of spirituality. That would make for a million million (that's a trillion) definitions of the difference between spirituality and religion. This kinda means I uses these words at my own peril, if what I'm after is communication. I suppose that's true of any words but... often when I discuss things spiritual, I have to groan at how badly I muck up what I'm trying to say.
Especially when the person goes "oh yes! I get it!!" When in fact, what I'm saying is... *I* don't get it, and I don't even know what *it* is. As I get older, I have more questions than answers and at this rate, on my deathbed I'll be down to zero in the answers department.
I try to stick to experience. It may or may not be helpful, but it's all I've got. As another forum member says, it's bullshit to talk outside your experience. Well, pretty much any talk of God is outside my experience. That doesn't mean I don't believe in God, it means I know next to nothing about God, and I certainly don't understand God. I'm fairly certain that if I understand it, it probably isn't God. But that's just my opinion. Experience is I had a little blind faith...well not totally blind. I went to some AA meetings, and I got caught up in the fellowship and the laughter and I wanted what you guys had. You told me how to get it, and what you told me to do seemed strange, but I did it anyway. My life got better.

Barisax
It was interesting that this particular thread that I am worried about somehow got onto the topic of religion, and as soon as religion was talked about, in came a bunch of "professors" embracing "non faith" in a more passionate manner than a TV evangelist!. When I finally came into the debate, I simply let them know that no matter how hard core anti faith they were, that in their hour of need, they could still pray for help, and that no matter how anti faith they were, they would probably be listened to. That started a whole new wave of anger.
I am with all of you. Live and let live. Say your piece humbly and move on. It will probably make more of an impression that way anyhow.
Merry Christmas!!!
Tom
