I feel more positive about staying sober (and off smokes, too) then I have in a long time. I had my last drink Dec 8 and last smoke Dec 9, 12:45 a.m. feel spacy and weird, guess my body is detoxing still. Anyway... i sponsored a little 6 year old boy from Ethiopia for 40 dollars a month through world vision Canada. I forget his name, but he is adorable. It is called Hope Child Sponsorship. Part of me was saying "What are you doing, you're on disability, you can't afford 40 bucks a month!" and another part said "Stfu, you have spent way more than 40 bucks a month on cigarettes and beer for the last 12 years...."

So he is a commitment I made to help keep me on the right track, too. Anyway, I will tell you more about him later, when I get the introduction package. Have a good day.

Good stuff!  Thats what sobriety gives us for sure, the ability and willingness to do something for somone else.  The thing to remember is, as the Big Book says, we are not to deprive our own creditors, or family our financial obligations in order to help others.  If it interfers with your ability to maintain your own shelter, food, and utilities, at any point, its okay to change your mind and do it again, when you can afford to again.

You are definetely on the right track... what I spent in alcohol and drugs, and all the ramifications of it.. could fill a good size truck with money... so a few dollars going to a worthy cause each month in our sobriety is a great way to honor and celebrate our freedom from active alcoholism.
