Let's say you had to describe the 12 steps of AA to someone that knew nothing about them...Knew nothing about AA. And you had three sentences to do it...And this is for people that have taken the steps, are working on the steps...Or people that haven't even started them. How would you sum them up in three sentences?? Think about that.
These 12 beautiful steps released me from the bondage of alcoholism and put me closer to my God than I have ever been. They have completely changed the way that I treat myself and every person, place, thing or situation around me. They have given me a life that I never could have even dreamed was possible.
Now, Now, don't judge. Everyone might just be working the steps tonight
Not sure I can do much better than page 164, sums up the steps in 4 sentences
Abandon yourself to God as you understand God. Admit your faults to Him and to your fellows. Clear away the wreckage of your past. Give freely of what you find and join us.
I've also heard. Trust God. Clean house. Help a drunk.

Once we pulled our heads out of our asses we found we were not alone any more. With the help of the god of our understandiong and one another we found freedom from enslavement to our own arrogant darkness. After some joyously painful work we became the people we were meant to be all along and now are well enough to help others to do the same.
Even though I didn't know it, I drank because alcohol did something for me, not just to me. Alcohol allowed me to feel like I was not just a visitor in my own life, it made it so things were ok even if they weren't. By being a part of AA, and living in the 12 steps, which I don't always do, I get the same thing only better, freedom from the bondage of self and I can remember it.
