Welcome to MIP, Bette.  We've all been where you are now.  Here's the thing:  if you are really sick and tired of your life as it is right now, don't debate, don't negotiate, don't procrastinate getting to a meeting NOW.  One of the baffling aspects of the disease of alcoholism is that we can feel so terribly awful one moment, and ready to do ANYTHING to get help, and then allow our heads to convince us in the next moment (or day) that things aren't really so bad.  That's why it's important to "strike while the iron is hot," and get to a meeting when we're at that really, really low point.  That is my experience.  The hope that I can offer is that if you do take that step and get to a meeting, and follow some very simple suggestions that you'll hear at meetings, you can stay sober and life will get much, much better.

Please keep posting and let us know how you're doing.  We need you,

Love,

BGG

Hi Bette,
Go to a meeting. Bring a tiny little composition book and your very favorite pencil or pen.
Then Doodle.
No kidding. You'll end up writing down a few things that really make yer head go "DING! THAT'S ME!" but it will also free your from yourself and give you a peaceful, serene hour. That's how it started for me. I just needed the hour. Before I knew it...I learned a few things.

Best, Rob

Hi Bette,

Welcome to "MIP" Thanks for reaching out Bette, and like everyone said...you're one step away from victory, for sure. "AA" is where it began for me some 10 + years ago, and it can for you...starting today.

~God bless~

Bette....Welcome. Just geting to the meeting was the hardest obstacle for me overcome. It has not always been easy and I have tried to work many aspects of AA, but once it got bad enough for me to actually get to that 1st meeting, I totally surrendered and haven't drank since. That is what got the ball rolling.

Welcome, Bette, this is an excellent place to start. going to AA meetings will also bring relief in just knowing there are other people who understand what you are going through. Finding out there is hope, help, and peace when we alcoholics are willing "to be willing" to be honest with ourselves and open with others about our difficulties concerning alcohol. the hardest part is reaching out and you have already done that.

I got a friend to go with me to my first meeting. She's not an alcoholic (I didn't know about closed versus open meetings then, but look for a meeting designated as open), but she gave me the moral support I needed to actually get in the door.

Hi Bette,

Welcome to the MIP board. It sometimes helps to call your local central office and they can have someone pick you up or meet you at the meeting>

Just show up. You'll be glad you did. Getting to the 1st one makes the 2nd one way easier.
