Hard not wanting a drink while living in an extended stay hotel. Especially with the stress grad school puts on me. Wish me luck.

I can tell you from experience that wishing and luck don't help much against alcoholism. For me nothing worked untill I became willing to make changes and take the action needed to save and change my life. Take the time you spend on drinking and go to some meetings obtain and read the big book and get some phone number from sober people. Remember we never have to be alone unless we chose to be.

Luck didn't play a big role for me. Going to meetings and becoming ready to work a program did. Do whatever you need to do to stay sober today - its gets easier.

If you go to a meeting a day. Find a sponsor, work the steps, I bet you will be sober a year from now.

I tried on my own not to drink and found I couldn't do it.  There was a moment when a few things fell into place such that I had a total realization that I was alcoholic.  In that moment, looking back now, I had a willingness to go to lengths to get help.  For me discovering AA on this very website has made all the difference in the world.  Today I have a life that brings me joy and I can now handle the hardships with at least a little grace.  Before, I felt I would take my life as I could not endure or figure out how to make it right.  I got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore, nor could I continue to drink to deal, cause it wasn't working anymore, only creating more problems.

Welcome and keep coming back to let us know how it is with you.
