I just binged drank for four days straight and made a big fool of myself in front of new friends. It made me really reevaluate my reltionship with alcohol.
I stopped drinking this morning and now am experiencing some alarming side effects. I'm shaky and exhausted but can't fall asleep. I keep suffering from full body sweats and my stomach has been really off. My nose running and I'm having a hard time concentrating.
Welcome to "MIP". Detoxing affects people differently; physically, mentally and personally. Some people are able to detox smoothly and virtually pain free, while others suffered endlessly for days on end. My suggestion, get in touch with an outpatient clinic or substance abuse physician. They're very helpful when it comes to detoxing safely and can also help your physicality; by alleviating some of the suffering caused by those dreaded withdrawal symptoms. AA and this forum are there for added support and an addiction counselor can help you manage life without the drink. I hope this helps...

Chances are good that they are side effects...head off to your MD and have them check you over and make sure they know about alcohol and you. (((hugs)))
Pinklily - I will pray for you and please do go see a doc. They have done great solutions to get you through this. If you don't or can't see a doc, start drinking juices AND sports drinks and get some multi-vitamins (ones for elderly have better replenishing vitamins) to replenish your missing vitamins and minerals. Even though you don't want to, take short walks (with someone else if possible) within safe distances to get your blood moving and flesh oxygen in your body. This does not replace what a doctor can do for you and if you can go to a doc, please do go ASAP... but this will help if you can't go.
Yes, these are withdrawal effects, yes, they are normal, and yes, you should see a doctor anyway. They can help, no need to suffer needlessly.
Also, you gotta have a plan for AFTER you get dry, or you run a big risk of just starting again. You have to re-evaluate the whole way you think about your everyday life. AA can help with this.

I saw a doctor the day before I quit drinking because I wanted to avoid withdrawal. He prescribed me some drugs that I think have really helped. This is only my third day of sobriety, but I've experienced few side effects so far ... got a bit of the shakes and the sweats, but that's about it. Plus, the meds have made me want to sleep all the time and that's helping me too. Don't know what the next few days will bring, but so far, so good. Also, stay hydrated, take vitamins (B12 and some D would be good, along with a good multi-vitamin) and make sure you are eating healthy. Might also ask your doctor about Naltrexone ... it's supposed to help with cravings so you don't have the desire to drink. In 3 days, I've had absolutely no desire to drink. Doesn't help everyone, but it could be of some help to you.
