here i go again x my daughter marriage is going through a very bad patch and dhe is drinkinking a couple glasses of wine slowely.she says she says to herseil"i am drinking this because i like it not because i need it!"told her her higher power is warning her RIGHT?
There is like a 50 percent chance that children of alcoholics will wind up having a problem. Can't say for sure though. Neither of my parents are alcoholic but my uncle was and 2 of his 4 kids are so that seems about right.

I found it best to leave my alcoholism between me and my higher power and other peoples alcoholism between them and their higher power, if I lecture and preach, I push people away from AA, if I mind my own business, get sober, and work my program so my life gets better, I attract people TO AA
Attraction not promotion is in our Traditions for a very important reason
Chapter 7 in our Big Book is VERY clear about this issue, and I have found it is correct, I STILL cringe when I remember my "preacher" days when I went after my friends and family about "their alcoholism", and they remind me about it to this day, although it occured during the Truman Administration
We are careful never to show intolerance or hatred of drinking as an institution. Experience shows that such an attitude is not helpful to anyone. Every new alcoholic looks for this spirit among us and is immensely relieved when he finds we are not witchburners. A spirit of intolerance might repel alcoholics whose lives could have been saved, had it not been for such stupidity. We would not even do the cause of temperate drinking any good, for not one drinker in a thousand likes to be told anything about alcohol by one who hates it.

I agree with Lin, leading by example is one thing but preaching is another. Let's face it, the last thing anyone wants to hear is some preachy sermon. It's like putting lipstick on a preachy pig. I try to convey "the message of recovery" as best I can and leave the rest up to God. I can't convince people of the obvious (their alcoholism), but I can lead by example. That's...how I carry the message. I hope this helps.
HI THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY.I ACTUALLY NEVER PREACH ABOUT AA,LIKE YOU I KEEP IT TO ONE SIDE.
IT JUST WORRIED ME AS MY OLDEST SON DIED IN 2004 THROUGH THIS ILLNESS AND MY YOUNGEST SON,ALTHOUGH HE WAS MURDERED,WOULD HAVE ALSO DIED THROUGH THE SAME THING.
MY DAUGHTER GAVE UP DRINKING A LONG TIME AGO AFTER SHE SMASHED HER PALS HOUSE UP.
TO HEAR HER DESCRIBE HOW SHE WAS DRINKING WINE NOT BECAUSE SHE NEEED IT BUT BECAUSE SHE LIKED IT WAS VERY WORRYING.SHE WAS SAYING THIS TO HERSELF WITH EVERY SIP!
I I AM GRATEFUL TO BE A RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC BECAUSE I CAN UNDERSTAND EVERY FEELING THEY ARE GOING THROUGH AND I AM THERE IF THEY NEED ME.I HAVE ONE SON AND TWO DAUGHTERS LEFT AND DO NOT WANT THEM TO GO THROUGH MY HELL1
I ONLY WROTE THE POST WARNING SIGNS BECAUSE OF MY OWN PERONAL FEARS FOR MY DAUGHTER...AND ONLY SAID 2 WORDS TO HER "WARNING SIGNS".
I REALLY THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR REPLY..TAKING THE TIME TO READ AND CARE.
Thanks Angelina for being such a strong example of how this program works. Through all of the adversity you've stayed sober. I'm a little concerned that my 24yo son is experimenting, but I'm powerless over it, he lives across the state. I gave him all the info on statistics when he was a minor. He knows the odds. Praying helps.
I started out drinking a couple glasses of wine every night while going through a difficult time too. I even questioned my own use of alcohol at that time, but I was nowhere near ready to stop. We all have to arrive at sobriety on our own schedule.
THE POWER OF PRAYER IS INDEED A GREAT THING...TO ME EVERYONE PRAYING FOR ANOTHER SUFFERING ALCOHOLIC BECOMES A CIRCLE......JUST LIKE THE WONDEFUL MEMBERS OF AA.
"MAY YOUR HIGHER POWER BE AROUND YOU,ABOVE YOU,BELOW YOU AND IN YOU!"
