Eating was never the same after I stopped drinking. I always had bottle of wine with my lunch and or dinner everyday. Id hit the heavy booze after 7pm. I literately had a retrain myself to eat because everything tasted bland and boring without the alcohol.
I think im on to something. Trying pair non adult beverages with food. For me this is most important when going out to dinner.
This isnt just soda. It can be juices, exotic cold teas, coffees, etc..
I really dont like non-alcoholic beer and wine, because frankly - it tastes horrible, and it costs more then the real thing lol.
Can anyone share their go to non adult beverage of choice.
Mine would be Jamaican Ginger Beer. This is ginger ale on steroids. This stuff kicks like a mule - and you have to like spicy. Ginger is spicy? Yes.. try it one day - its shocking..
I did that whole thing for a few years, what was helpful for me were things that made me go -pucker-, tonic water, like your ginger beer, things I could sip
Now...coke with steak seven up with fish.....actually tonight I was out in the country in a NICE steakhouse 100 miles from anywhere, one of those famous 70 year old rancher places where they like grow their own cows out back, and I had old fashioned ginger ale as well....beautiful night, 75 degrees bombing around the foothills in a 1972 mercedes convertible with the top down, wind in our hair...who worries what you are drinking on nights like that? after awhile that stuff becomes unimportant, in the meantime it's crucial haha

Diet coke with a couple limes, ice tea (lusianne) with limes, You can add a couple of cloves while brewing it (heavenly). water with limes, variety of juices. I really like the V8 fushion drinks. Fuze isn't too bad. Getting a good water filter system (reverse osmosis) at home will make your water taste a lot better.

For me, Mountain Dew goes well with anything lol. I never really gave it any thought. When I drank I avoided eating. I had a roommate at the treatment program I went to that was really into pairing wine with food. All he could do when eating was talk about how such and such wine would go perfect with such and such food. We went to a 90 day program, and he couldn't wait for his fancy 4 course meal after he got out. He actually made it 93 days (90 in treatment, 3 out) before he was back at it. It all started with his obsessing over how much better wine made any meal. Sadly, he's still out there, drinking the cheapest wine he can get, living in his uncles garage. In my opinion, he had reservations from the start, and never let them go.

My thought / problem / opinion was that diet coke just doesn't go with everything.
Lobster bisque for instance. Shudder.
Looked for beverages that would complement food and found.....
"THE NON-ALCOHOLIC DRINK BOOK"
It was published in the 70's and as you would expect has a dated looking cover, is out of print and is just slightly politically incorrect.
However, I have found a plethora of beverages for every food, with some surprizing ingredients (saurkraut, roses, and watercress) and all kinds of occasions (punch for a hundred, fashion shows, hunting). The weird thing is I have had success with every reciept. It's probably available for a quarter on Amazon. Worth a look.
