Yep, I've got a man cold, don't know if I'll survive to teh weekend.

Seriously though, I found a bottle of Beechams all in one cold remedy and two packs of all in one tablets.....which to have?

Not the liquid, it's nearly 20% ABV! check the labels.

I like the Zycam products. First sign of a cold I chew zinc tablets. That kills off 95% of the colds I come across.

Hi Man Bill...

Whwn you are feeling better - tell me what the difference is.

Man cold, vs. Womens Cold...smile.

Anyway you sound very wiped out.... and being all alone and OUT of everything you need....you have a handful of Sponsees, right, any friend in the Program that you can call for a Mayday run to the store for you.

I like Zicam too, but stopped using it when I could feel my heart racing sooo fast.  I was using the liquid, putting a tiny amount on a Q tip and just touching the last 1/4 " of the inside of my nostrils.....it was so great for many times, even to the point that one day I had a cold the next day, gone.

But here are some of Auntie Toni's suggestions, sit down, make a list of everything you can think of as far as food, soups, tissues, and then to the meds. The worse part of a cold is a cough, and Bill they have everything you could ever want in a cough medication, Alcohol FREE says so in BIG letters, the liquid meds that are pure expectorant, keeping the flem up and out of your chest, over here it is called Robitussen,

get 2 big bottles for the duration of this cold so no chance of running out...

Then call some sponsees, any AA friend and say I realllllly need some help today. it is sunday but you might try your pharmacies about whether they ever deliver...It is Memorial day over here, so if all else failed, call a taxi, give the driver the list, and get the stuff you need.  It is one thing to be sick as a dog, but it is much worse to feel dibilitated to where you cannot do these things.

One little suggestion.  Stay away from any drug, like Tylonol Plus, for colds, all they add is heavy antihistimines, which dry up what SHOULD never do anything but kept liquid,  it is part of a cold to have a contstant running nose to blow...

Sorry, I probably sounded like I was talking to someone that has never had a cold, but it does sound like you have not had one in many a moon.

With my current situation, and for some years now, have had to bring a fast resolve for a common cold, for me to do nothing, it would turn into Brocial Pnumonia in 30 hours from the get go.....did not excape one this last early year, and I was down and out for almost 3 months, my own doc would come to my house and see me once a week, and you wonder why I tell you sometimes Bill how much I love her..

I will pray for a quck healing....

one last PS....Put the Money under a rug at your front door, if you find someone, and have whoever leave the stuff at the door. you cold is highly contagious at this time.

GEES LOUISE, I really should have put this in a PM, well dont feel like rewriting it... so whoever else is reading...sorry for the dullness on our AA website......biggrin......sure I am!!!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful and Sober Sunday.

I have had a bitch of one the last 2 weeks. I did break down and go get Nyquil on one night cuz I was shivering and so stuffed up I could not stand it any more and that junk has always worked best for colds in the past (despite it having 20 percent alcohol). I wouldn't recommend it for others but I didn't rush out to the bar or liquor store after that and I'm not picking up a white chip over it.

This cold sucks though...I empathize

Man cold and woman cold are the same, just that for men we really believe it's potentially fatal and we need looking after. Women see it as a minor irritant and just get on with it.

So anyway I got enough Beechams All in One tablets to get me through to tomorrow morning when I go to the Chiropractor to get my back straightened out, so I can go to the corner shop to stock up on All In One. It works for me.

My Mum always said feed a cold and starve a fever, so I'm eating regular, but usually small portions, mostly soup and bread, the odd mug of beef stock and I'm drinking fluids by the pint. Kettle is always on, tea pot always on the go.

It's probably going to break tonight, so I might not get much sleep, but once it breaks we're on the home straight. Working at the seaside tomorrow so some good old Ozone will clear the head too. A hot steamy shower also helps.

Yeah...I'm feeling a little under the weather myself. I always have a good supply of zinc tablets on hand just in case. My remedy is a good cup of "Green Tea" with honey and a couple of zinc tablets. My cure-all for the everyday cold. Bill...I hope you feel better soon.bleh

LOL.. my cold "cure" used to be frozen whisky sours.  I later discovered that the main effective ingredient in terpinhydrate cough syrup was alcohol, so I could just keep a bottle of vodka by my bed to swig.  Cheaper... LOL.  That was the only time I ever did keep a bottle bedside.

There are a whole lot of cough & cold products out there now that contain no alcohol or narcotics.  The most common cough suppresant is dextromethorphan.  It works, but I really hate the stuff.  It has very unpleasant side effect on me and I only take it when I'm coughing to the point where I can't sleep.  I hate the side effects so much that I'll postpone swigging it until I'm desperate.  Some people actually abuse the stuff... all I can say is, yuck.  A DM "high" is really unpleasant even in legit dosage, I can't imagine drinking a whole bottle of the shit.

I don't get colds too often.  Mostly I battle year-round allergies.  I take generic (Walmart brand) Claritin (loratadine) and generic benadryl for that.  Benadryl used to really mess me up - probably because I'd take it with alcohol.  But I don't have any bad side effects from it and it does the job when I need it.  I went to an alergist years ago and tried a bunch of different things, most of them the cure was worse than the disease.  I can't take anything with pseudoeffedrine in it for instance - it just makes me crazy.  Again, I can't see any attraction in abusing the stuff.

I take a regular round of Rx which I call "middle aged fat guy cocktail".  I take stuff for blood pressure, potassium supplements, various vitamins, as well as metformin for diabetes (I don't have to take insulin.... yet) and Lipitor for cholesterol.  All this stuff works but even with insurance it runs me about $150 a month.  My father in law just had a low blood sugar episode that landed him in the emergency room.  He's about 22 years older than me, and he bounced right back but I realized that I'm looking at my future if I don't get off my ass and drop some more weight.  I've lost 60 lbs since being diagnosed type 2 diabetes 6 years ago, but could stand to lose 50-60 more.  I would be happy to get under 200, which I always joke that I haven't seen since I passed it on the way up about age 16... before I discovered beer.  Still, even if I never lose another pound, I have a reasonable chance of keeping my diabetes under control if I watch my diet - and - stay sober.  Alcohol definitely doesn't go well with diabetes.  My doctor when he saw the numbers said he was VERY glad that my drinking problem was "out of the way".  One day at a time it is.

I think I'm in reasonably decent health for a lardass with a desk job and a sweet tooth and way too much love for pasta, red meat, salt, and ice cream.  If I continued to drink the way I was, I would be a real piece of wreckage by now, if I was even still alive.

To all, but mostly Barisax....well since 8 oz of Warmed Brandy is out of the question, thank GOD,

I have used the Robittusin for a zillion years, Th Robotussin DM, about 4 years ago, I was asking myself and a pharmacist, WHY would anyone take a cold liquid that was BOTH a Suppressent , and an Expectorant , each doing the opposite, one suppressng the cough and the other ingredient expelling and losening the cough.....he must have sold a lot so he just said Well people take whatever works for them...Chicken guy.

I stopped using the DM and always have the Alcohol Free of course Robitussin that is only the expectorant, when I cough, it is productive, like the phlem comes up in a few minutes and can go back to sleep, when it is at night,  no longer the endless cough that would not stop, of course in the middle of the night.

Bill are you write this all down...smile Hope you enjoy the Salt water air at the ocean, over here we sell that stuff by the zillions, little bottles of Saline Mist, Simply Saline, a gigantic market for people that want to keep their nazal cavities from drying out in the winter months, no we dont get snow or really bad weather, but it does get cold, and the heaters go on, thus the dry air.  I use this stuff religously.....

Happy Tuesday all, and thank you to any Veterans that we honored yesterday, saw a real old movie, so touching one of the first, "The Best Years of our Lives" about 3 Veterans finding transportaion together and becoming friend and watching how, even then, people were such ass holes to the men that went over seas for our Beloved country......I dont like old movies, but I loved this one.

HUgs and sorry for the Happy Veterans Day mention a day late....

Toni
