After Dr Bob's relapse he went to everyone in Akron whom he had hurt & told them he was sorry for what happened during his drinking & made amends to them. He applied the recovery program at that early stage of his recovery and it worked. Contrition as opposed to remorse, which I was very fond of when I was drinking, is genuine humility. I was 8 years sober and on the day of my thanksgiving my wife was crying. I will never forget what she told me that day for the rest of my life. She said: "You phone every body and tell them you are sorry for what had happened, but never tell me sorry." What she meant was I was never contrite in my amends to her. I just told her sorry and bought her stuff. That day my recovery took a new turn. Whenever my wife would says anything to me I learnt to listen. She saved me from many things over the years. My love for her begin to grow in a new way. What I found that if my relationship with God is good, then my relationship with others is extraordinary
