~ Admitted to Being an Alcoholic...Twice!

So, I went to my first meeting this morning, as promised to myself. It was nice. The group was very small and, from what I understood from others, it was a very casual reflections meeting with lots of sharing. I took a number from the only other woman there and borrowed some literature to read. I can hit this group twice a week and found a place where there are daily meetings I can go to on my lunch hour, so I am feeling more secure about the whole meeting thing now and was able to share my name and that I was an alcoholic with the group.

Next I went to the doctor to see about this lingering cold. As we were talking about medications and such I knew I needed to share with her that I recently quit drinking and was dealing with my alcohol issue. She was lovely about it and is treating me in such a way as not to jeopardize what I am working on. Unfortunately, I have bronchitis and a secondary infection and am to have bed rest for a few days along with some meds.  Oh well, at least I am not drunk on top of it and what's that sayin'? Oh yea, this too shall pass. :)

All in all...a pretty darn good day, and number six without a drink.

Thanks...vixen for your share.

I'm sorry to hear about your bronchitis...we certainly wish you a speedy recovery. As far as the meeting is concerned, we're glad it went well. It took me a long time to admit my powerlessness and I hope you're more successful than I was my first time around. I have numerous ailments as well and I often wonder what it would feel like to be pain free myself -from time to time. There's one thing I do know and that is this: My worst day sober is better than my best day drunk -without a doubt...

If you have any remedies for old creaky bones, I would like to hear them...Talk about aches and pains. It took me over 20 years to get the first step -like I said, and I hope your recovery lasts just as long -one day at a time.

~God bless~ aww

Great Job Vixen...so many folks never even get to the point you just described. While sobriety is not always easy...really all you have to do now is follow directions, be honest, open minded, and willing. Everything will fall into place. Hope you feel better soon.

Hey Vixen, great stuff, and welcome aboard. Picking up on what's been said above, I still have bad days sober -- but even they are better than the best days drinking. :)

Keep coming back -- you're helping me stay sober just by being here.

Steve

Thanks to everyone who left words of encouragement and support. They really do mean a great deal coming from people who have been there. I look forward to being able to do the same in return. :)

This illness has kept me in bed and will until doctor's orders are lifted on Wednesday. In the meantime, I read, eat, sleep and pray. Seems like a healing combination to me. I am already starting to feel better and am excited to go to another meeting in two days.

I am treasuring feeling closer to my God and am keeping an open heart.

Wishing all a wonderful week.
