One of those mornings. The ones where you wake up just before the alarm goes off and lay there. You know you should feel grateful for where and how you are and what you have, but you just lay there. Eyes wide, alone, letting your mind wander unproductively.

or at least you think it's unproductive. Tune out the noise in your head. reflect on how it was, what happened, what you did, WHY you did (as best as you can). reflect on what's happening now, how it is, WHY it is (as best as you can.)

reflect on the transition between the two phases - oh oh, you're sharing your experience, strength and hope with yourself...check it for truth, check it for fantasy, check it for accuracy, check it for embellishment...........

you're carrying the message to yourself here, and you've had a small conscious contact with God. You review the last 24 hours, even though you slept for 8 of them, what about your amends, did you do your best and the harms, have you identified all of them? Do you really mean it when you asked for the character defects to be removed and did you identify all of them? Did you share them honestly and openly with your HP, another hman being and yourself. Did you list all your character traits good and bad as fearlessly as possible? Maybe you should, could revisit that? did you mean it when you asked God to restore you to sanity, do you believe that a power greater than you can do this, are you powerless over alcohol and is your life unmanageable?

So how did I work through the steps backward to get to step 1 all over again.

My names, Bill, I'm an alcoholic. I haven't had a drink today and I'm powerless over alcohol.

now, let the day begin again.

when I listen to another recoverying alcoholic share I'm listening to what can also work for me.  To not listen and to not practice is much to risky a behavior for this alcoholic. Thanks Bill...some of that is actually my own.  Today I don't do much thinking my way thru it...doing my way thru it has always been best...like it or not.   smile
