I am working on my wife's BMW. Doing an engine transplant from a donor car. Reminds me of my early days of sobriety. I started a project with one of my sponsees. We started on a project to build a camper motorhome. For the first 18 months of my sobriety, I kept at it daily. It took me 6 months to rebuild the engine itself. My sponsee will come on weekends and do the welding of the frame. It kept him sober as well.
I eventually abandoned that project, but it was something that I always love doing.
I never thought of a drink or even complained about anything. I was just excited to be sober and do the things I used to love doing in my youth. I bought my 1st car when I was 14. Now I am 51 and 22 years sober and I still have that passion for cars. Thank God that He gives us these talents and abilities. I find that these gifts if used positively will bring great joy in my life.

Thats funny, I am working on my boys mini bikes and a moped of all things. My 8 and 11 year olds actually talked a guy in their grandparents neighborhood into selling them a 1980 moped for $50. It is great to lose yourself in the simple pleasure of making something run.
