Me has been my biggest obstacle. I had to have what I wanted, when I wanted it, no matter who it hurt. And for the most part, that's what I got. It came with a lot of baggage though.
Ironically, I ignored the healthy side of selfishness. The are times when you have to put yourself first no matter how it affects others. I didn't understand this until sobriety. And much of what I'm learning is from the AA and Al-Anon forums, along with the AA meetings and the Big Book. And most importantly, seeking insight from God.
So thanks for listening and giving advice. Thanks for the encouragement. I feel like a completely new person.. just in a matter of a few weeks. It gives me hope for tomorrow.
And I pray that I can be of encouragement to others as many of you have been to me.
THANKS!
One more thing... I will be seeking a sponsor at the next meeting and formally begin working the steps and applying them to my life.

Yes...I did not understand the difference between selfish and self-care before AA. You are right about it being a really important distinction. They also say you are doing God's will when you get out of your own way.
Good work.

Self care. I should use that. I've been saying "selfish for the right reasons these days" and getting a lot of blank stares and misunderstandings.
Well...self-care is part of a spiritual life too the way I see it. God has given us these bodies and our lives....to be of service to him and others we need to take care of ourselves. Self-care is sort of doing God's will.... Sometimes self-care is not fun either because it mean I should not be a a glutton. At other times, self-care is positive because it also means slowing down, resting, having fun, socializing...etc.

^ I like this HP...makes allot of sense to me. I've learned that the word "self" has no place in my vocabulary these days. Not saying it never sneaks in there, but I keep on workin' on it. Thanks for the reminder that my biggest problem today is still me!
